Hello to you all :-)

I have recently joined Healing Well for the diabetes section on behalf of my husband. Having read through all the diseases and conditions I came across this section.

Both myself and hubby suffer cluster headaches. This is a condition similar to migraine, but where as the blood vessels swell up to twice their normal size during magraine (horrid I know as I suffer them too) during a cluster attack the blood vessels swell 10 to 15 times their normal size. This causes extreem pain lasting in bouts of 15 to 45 mins usually. The attacks come on fast and hit you so hard we have been known to black out with the pain. The only way to abbort an attack is O2 or imigran injections.

I wondered if anyone on this site knows of them or indeed suffers from them. Several posts I have read sound similar to clusters.

My name is Michael and I have been having cluster migraines for about 2-1/2 weeks. At first I thought I had a sinus infection, but after seeing my Dr. and having a normal CAT scan, I was sent to see an eye specialist. He told me that my eyes were normal and that I was probably having cluster migranes. My wife started keeping a log listing each cluster with dates, the times that the clusters start and end. I have found that this has been a very helpful bit of info to have. My clusters happen mostly in the middle of the night beteen 0200 and 0500 am although some have occured during the day and last anyware from 20 to 30 mins. At first I was having 3 to 4 clusters a day but now only have 1 a day. So far my Dr. has me on MAXALT-MLT (rizatriptan benzoate) which has been very effective if taken early on when the pain first starts to take hold. My pain is on the right side of my face mainly around the eye and is very, very painful. I also hold a cold pack over my eye. The funny thing is that sound and light do not intensify the pain. I hope that this helps. I will keep you posted on anything new.
