Hi there...can anyone help? I have suffered from migraines since I was pregnant with my first child 12 years ago. They started off as visual disturbance and  light sensitivity only with no headache. Gradually over the years I started with headaches usually behing my right eye and vomiting. They were usually relatively rare thankfully and I could usually deal with them if I took maxalt at the onset and then slept for a few hours and I'd be fine.  However over the last year or so they have been gettign more and more frequent and I was having at least one a week and the medication seemd to be less effective.  Over the last 2 months things have gotten really bad....the pain seems to have change..it still starts behind my eye...but seems to move doen and settle at the base of my skull...it is the worst pain ever...and NOTHING touches it..i have these type about once every 2 weeks andy they can last for 2 days and the pain is so bad i cant sleep....even on the days when i dont have the acute pain i stll have an underlying headache which feels like it could go into a full blown migraine at any time.....yesyerday was the first day in 5 weeks where i was pain free..today it is there again...please help...oh...i also forgot to say that the right sida of my neck and shoulder are sore now also iam going crazy with thi as it is really affecting my day to life

Thanks

Hi

Sorry to here about your bad time with your headaches. Have you ever heard of Sanomigran, they are a preventitave tablet that you take nightly and these prevent the migraines even happening. There has been take of them increasing your appitite but i think a small price to pay if you are feeling that bad. Have a talk to your doctor and see what they think.

Hi diedlocks, thanks for the advice...I have actually tried sanomigran twice in the past and it didn't seem to work for me...and yes - it did increase my appetite  - though like you say that would have been worth it had it worked...i hate going back to my doctor cos i always get the impression he thinks i'm a hypochondriac.....do you know if there are any other preventative medications which i could maybe suggest to him....it is so good to read some of the posts on here because it really is a relief to know that othr people can relate to what i am ging through, thanks

Hi there, there are quite a few preventatives mentioned if you read some past posts, with mixed results. Topamax seems to be a popular one, I went to a neuro this week after about 3 years of worsening migraines (had been treated by GP with fiorocet or imitrex) and am starting topamax so it is too soon to tell yet how it will work for me. Amitryptaline (sp?) is another one, an antidepressant also used for headaches. I think neuronton is also used as a preventative.

Good luck, headaches are the pits. I hope you find some relief.
