So the FDA recently approved a CGRP antagonist med for the first time called Aimovig (Sold by amgen). Have any of you tried this new medication? I have heard good things and I've signed up for the free 2 months trial. I was wondering if any of you have tried it so far or know someone who has, and how it went for you/them? Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

Is this the one labs have been working on for years?

If so, my Neuro is waiting to see how trials go, currently I am receiving 4 shots in the back of my head of lidocaine for daily chronic pain and a new diagnosis of complex migraines.

Yes, it is the one they have been trialling awhile. It is officially the first med designed specifically for migraine approved by FDA. I'm not great with the scientific terms but iirc it is a monoclonal antibody that is a calcitonin gene-related peptide antagonist. Basically, calcitonin gene-related peptide (cgrp) was found to worsen pain in patients with migraines, so they made an antibody to kill the cgrp in hopes of it decreasing the pain. It's a once-a-month subcutaneous injection. A lot of what I've heard from doctors and such is good but I've yet to hear anything from someone who has actually tried it.

Welcome Ouroboros-
Yes!

July 27,2018. Luckily free and given in my Headache Specialist office. I had no ill
Effects from it. Except, I ended up in the hospital for 5 days for a severe migraine.
I’m not sure if that is from the Aimovig or not. I don’t see a change yet. If you go to the
Aimovig.com website, call them and discuss the process with them. They have
Discounts depending what your insurance is.
I had a lengthy discussion with my Headache Specialist before getting the Aimovig.
The standard dose for most is 70mg. Most will do the 3- x 28 day cycle before
Deciding the next course. The trials for 140 mg were slightly better than the 70mg.
My headache doc is hearing positive reviews from his patients. One never knows.
You are allowed to do Botox and Aimovig concurrently.

Good luck🍀

My neuro just prescribed me this med.

I have not picked it up yet.

Also I have been approved for medical marajuana and the oil 10-1 is working well for me. We have and thunderstorms for the last 3 days and the oil in minuscule amount takes the pain from a 9 to 4 in 15min.

So I don't know when I will us the Injection. It is a preventative, most likely when I think conditions might bring on a Complex Migraine.

Hi Trina-
When I started using the Aimovig, it took away my migraines by half or a little more the first month.
I go back tomorrow for my second injection. I get them free in the md office. I spoke to my headache
Specialist yesterday, he is going to give me Aimovig 140mg tomorrow. (70mg x 2).
I’ve been having migraines this week as the Aimovig wears off. He shared with me how it can happen.
Giving a higher dose tomorrow will hopefully prevent that. No side effects.

Good luck and keep in touch.

HHHMMM.

I started the THC oil, and just a covering on a toothpick tip, is enough to bring my daily pain down to a 4.

I wonder is A will even work. I have lost hope for being pain free, I would be content with a 5 or under. I have become use to that and can function.

I will let you know when I receive the med.

Hi Trina-
Please keep me in the loop. I’m not headache free! But they are less severe at times. Sometimes I throw
All the meds I have at them in small amounts throughout the day, and it is still there. I go to bed and sleep and there better. I’m on the Aimovig 140mg dose. Steroids have helped me tremendously but can’t stay
On those forever 😞.
I am getting sad😞. This has been going on a long time and every drug, injectible or complimentary action
I do, does not seem to make much of a change. 😏
My specialist said I’m his most difficult patient.

Oh well.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I understand how you feel with the meds do not reduce the pain.

I use Sominex to go to sleep with a hot pad on my head.

Thing is, taking all your rescue meds in one day, I found out can produce nasty rebound pain.

I urge you to have a honest discussion with your Neuro/and or GP.

This is how I finally was referred to the Medical Marajuana Program. I started the THC concentrated oil and I can keep the pain down to a 5 to 4 with almost no high. Bad weather days, I have to increase dose and I get a full on high, pain is down to a 4.

I don't take the sominex anymore.

Be safe with your meds.
