Hi I'm 22 and have been having migraines since I was 12.  Over the last 4 months or so I have went from having 1 or 2 a month to having them weekly and they last about 3 days.  I have been trying to deal with them by using tylenol 3 or other perscribed pain killers.  I have got to the point where I can't take it anymore and I have been perscribed a couple different things and was wondering if anyone has had any luck or bad side effects using these meds.  I have been prescribed propananol 4 a day then after a week I will go to 8 a day.  I also got 3 samples Zomig, Relpax and Axert I have perscriptions for all 3 and when I find the one I like I will get it filled.  Thanks very much for any info you can give me on these meds.

Sorry I think I spelled the medicine wrong.  I believe it's propranolol
 for the spelling.  Thanks again.

propranolol is generic Inderal...it is good for migraine prevention but initially can make you feel tired as it slows your body down. It is definitely a medication you should start slowly and slowly increase so you can tolerate the side effects.

Zomig, Relpax and Axert are all triptans that you take to abort or get rid of a migraine in progress. It is best to take these as early as possible during the pain. Also, do not mix these, you can only take one in 48 hrs...Like if you take Zomig today and it doesn't work you need to wait 48 hrs before you can take one of the others.

I suggest to keep a headache diary that way you know how you felt and what medications are working and aren't. Also...try to avoid any possible triggers...
