I know this sounds like every other topic in here but I've been experiencing sharp pains on the right side of my head. The day before I had a pounding headache then in the early hours of the morning the sharp pains started. They only last a few seconds but they come very very frequent. It's also affecting my right ear. It hurts also. Then my left ear kinda blocked out sounds, I couldnt hear anything except for a ringing. I first started getting them in 6th grade, now Im in 12th, and the doctor said it was just the muscle in my head tightening and affecting my ear and back but the muscle relaxers she prescribed me dont even work. ive been taking 800mg of motrin and they do the trick but do you think its something that i should have checked out? the only other medicine i take on a regular basis is prozac. please help me out.

Hi Moonlight, Welcome to Healing Well, I am sorry you are suffering so at the moment. I would suggest that you do get this more thoroughly checked out if only just to rule out things. I could just be a simple inner ear problem, do you get any dizziness at all? Have you seen a Neurologist? Make a note of what happens and the strength of the pain - i.e. on a scale of 1 -10, ten being the worst pain you could imagine. Also the length of time you have the pain, this will give you good information to give a Neurologist. Hope you feel better soon, keep us posted as to how you get on. Take care Ann.

Thank you soo much for replying. I went to the doctor today and he said the same thing the other doctor said. That it was stress related and it was muscles tightening. He did, however, say that he though it was cluster migraines and prescribed me another muscle relaxer. Hopefully it will do the trick.

Thanks for the advice about the log. ive been keeping one. Ive got a whole bunch of new symptoms like losing eyesight and seeing dots. Blood rushing to head for no reason. etc. He told me to see the eye doctor. So off I go again. Thanks again so much for answering

moonlight -
if its stress related, they should try giving you something for anxiety. i didn't get any relief whatsoever from the muscle relaxers i was prescribed, and then i finally got on klonopin (a benzodiazepine used for anxiety and panic), and my headaches are pretty much gone. if it really is due to stress, then this, along with stress relief excercises for your neck and shoulders, should do the trick. just offering another option to talk about with your doctor if the new muscle relaxers don't work :)

Hopefully this entry will help someone. about a month ago, I started having pain on the right side of my head above & behind my ear. Someone in this forum described it exactly like I was experiencing it-- it hurt off and on, it felt like the earpiece on my glasses pressed too tightly on this area causing the area to feel like a bruise. When I first went to see the doc, he said to wait longer to see if it got better (I only had this a week when I saw him). A month later when I still had it, I had a CT scan of the brain & saw a neurologist. Scan was fine & neurologist said he couldn't find any problem. The pain would get so bad sometimes I would have to take OTC Excedrin Migraine med. I was getting very frustrated. One day I had the idea that maybe the problem was caused from my sleeping position & maybe from reading in bed on the problem side of my body. That night I switched the side I usually sleep on & it was noticeably better the next day. I have tried this new sleeping position now for 3 days & I have not had the pain I was experiencing. Finally I have some relief. :-) :-)
