My doctor has now added propanolol 40mg/day to my med regime.  I'm already on Celexa and Amitryptiline (only 10mg).

I noticed on the patient information for the propanolol it says to talk with your doc if you are taking amitryptiline.

Is anyone else on both of these meds at the same time?

It's only day 3 with the propanolol, and I am sooooo tired.

Hi

Last year, I was on the Amitryptyline and pronanolol but i could only tolerate it for 6 days.  It made my pulse drop to 26 and I ended up being took to hospital.  If I stood up, I was out of breath. I was so tired all the time.

They took me off Beta Blockers and are treating me now with other drugs.

Sorry I dont have anything positive to say.

Take Care

Hi Ladybud,

I am on Amitriptyline and Propranolol at the moment and have been on 50mg Ami and 80mg Prop combination daily for about 2 months now. My biggest problem with this combination is the dry mouth. Yes I do feel somewhat tired but generally better in myself.

Unfortunately there has not been much impact on the headaches especially frequency, but the abortive med (Imitrex) has worked more efficiently! Just my two penneth.

Take care Ann.

Thanks Sarah and Anne for your quick reply's.  I wasn't sure if my doc was out to lunch or the pharmacist.  I've called and talked to the pharmacist and he reassured me that it's safe.  Especially since it's low doses of both meds.

It's been 5 days now on both meds and holy am I ever pooped. The first couple of days I really didn't like the feeling in my head.  It wasn't a headache, but I just felt strange somehow.  That feeling has gone away.  My headaches are different right now.  It comes and goes in short bursts.  Which is a lot better than 24/7.  I'm having trouble getting to sleep at night with the propanolol, so I'm hoping that wears off too.

Thank you both for your 'two penneth'. :)

I have been on both drugs but not both at the same time.  Both really tired me out.  When I was put on propanolol I reduced my dose from 80mg to 60mg a day.  I noticed a bit of a difference and had more energy with the reduced dose.

I started out on inderal 60 mg LA and elavil 10 mg , could not tolerate the feeling the elavil gave me, I was so tired all the time. that was about 9 years ago, since then I have been bumped up over the past few years to inderal la 160 mg, and have done great, no migraine in 3 years now, but the problem now is, the inderal reduces your metabolism and its been hard for me to loose weight even with prescription meds, so my doctor is weaning me off inderal and starting me on topamax which I am terrified to take, also the elavil made me gain weight, couldnt tolerate it.
