I've had migraines since I was 7 years old.  Im 20 now.  I have been on so many medications for it that I can't remember half of them.  They have been fairly managable (as managable as a migraine can be) in that I only had about 1 a month.  As I got older, my parents had to monitor me while I had the migraines because the pain would get more intense and they had caught me numerous times trying to guage my eyes out or sitting with hand fulls of my hair, pulled out by the roots.  Which I learned later on was my bodys way of trying to block out the pain of the migraine by creating a more intense pain somewhere else.  I was on elevil for the migraines and it worked wonders, until I got diagnosed bipolar and they couldn't have me on two anti-depressants.  Well so they started trying the immitrex family.  That was a no go.  I had terrible side effects.  THen they put me on Depakote, great results except my hair fell out.  Lots of it, so they had to take me off of that also.  Now I have had 14 in a little over 2 months, and they are coming in twos now.  So they are talking about putting me on Topomax, but the only problem I have with that is Im married and I can't take birth control (caused 10 migraines in 2 weeks), and codoms aren't going to at least almost gauruntee that I won't get pregnant while im on it, because I know it causes birth defects.  Do y'all know of anything else that I could possibly try?  Any advice at all would be greatly appriciated :)  Thanks.

hi kembri Dawn, sorry you have had it rough for so long!

can i ask something though when you say As I got older, my parents had to monitor me while I had the migraines because the pain would get more intense and they had caught me numerous times trying to guage my eyes out or sitting with hand fulls of my hair

was that because of the pain in your head, or were you getting pain form what would seem inside your eyes??

My migraine pain has always been behind my eyes on either side.   I have an aura on one side , in one eye and then the pain will be on the other side in the other eye.
