Ok you guys, tell me if I am wrong for thinking, that I have one looser for a neurologist.

I am not shore how many of you know about Topamax so I am going to make this a little wordy. I started taking Topamax 1 week ago today. I started off taking 50mg in the morning and 50 mg at night.

I began to get very very drowzy. Unable to function drowzy. I was also dealing with one of those wonderful migraines at the time and taking Maxalt. Of course I can't do anything. Can't drive, can't work, can't function. This continues until yesterday when I go in for my appointment and discover that I should have been taking only 25mg once a day before bed. I was totally shocked. I didn't know about the introuctory kit that you receive when you first start taking Topamax. (That is another story) This kit explains how to take the med.

Now, why do I think my neurologist is a looser: because when I told him that I have not been to work since this problem with the meds started, he asked me WHY. again, is it me or is he a total looser. I felt like he was trying to rush me so he really didn't have time time to think about what i was saying. I also had written down things that I wanted to talk to him about and he didn't give me a chance to go over the guestions. After he saw me pull them out.

Doctors really need to slow down and take time to explain these meds to there patients. I had no idea I was getting a graduating drug.

get a new neuro! that is not fair to you-they get so busy they forget that they are there to help!
what an awful experience!
i saw my neuro's AP and she took almost 45 min with me (not to mention she was much easier to get into) she also gave me tons of samples. maybe go that route next time and see how it goes?

I too just started topomax one week ago and my neuro was awesome.  He sat down with me and went over in detail and even wrote out the instructions as to how I was to take the the medicine over the next 4 weeks building up the dose.

I am taking my last evening dose of 25 mg tonight and haven't felt tired from it yet.  I did have a severe migraine last week and took one dose of maxalt and was knocked for a loop.  I couldn't even talk straight and passed out for 3 hours!  I had a hard time waking myself up after the 3 hours because I had to take my son to his soccer game.

Please see a new neurologist.  You deserve to be treated better.  Yours obviously doesn't understand what it's like to live with a migraine!
