i started having horrible migraines at the begining of puberty and around the same time, maybe a year or two prior, i would see auras around people all the time. (not colored. it looks like the wavey watery-like energyish thing on a hot day when u look down the street. or on a car on very hot days) i then started to also see weird opaque squiggley things (i called them bugs because that same year in class we watched a video on germs and bugs in everyone's bodies and the ones in the eyes look just like them in shape) which seemed to slowly fall vertically across my eyes. once i got my period i'd start to see spots like you'd see if someone has just taken your picture with a bright flash. varying in size. nothing was every exactly the same. and finally my vision would start to "black blurr" until i could see nothing but blackness. sometimes it didn't completely blind me, it would start to blurr black and then went away. none of these i could associate to a specific time like when i got my period each month or certain number of days/weeks before. they just started shortly before first hitting puberty. couple years later i got better control over my menstration and when that became less severe my migraines started to get less and less until last year it was very very few and i hadn't really seen any auras of any kind for a long time. i started college in fall (after not being in school for a year) and my migraines are starting to come back, but not as severe as in the past (associated with academic stress) and i've started to see the "bugs" again, just a few times and not along with a migraine. i also had a "black blurr black out" and dizziness last week for a few seconds that made me fall. a few years ago i had a visual black out and at the same time my hearing went away! both came back after vomitting (nice) but stayed dizzy for about an hour. that happened only once like that though and was a few years ago.
i'm concerned because last week my mother read at the doctors that people who see auras are more likely to have heart attack and stroke? are there any specific tests i should ask for at the doctors? how dangerous are these? what causes them?
