Hi.

I am new to this site and I suffer from sporadic hemiplegic migraines (meaning there is no family history). I was diagnosed at the age of seven and I am now thirty. Unfortunately as I have become older my attacks have become a lot worse and I also suffer from chronic daily headaches (which are not related to pankiller overuse), and migraines with and without aura. I have seen many specialists over the years and tried many preventative medications. I am now taking Flunarizine and I am being seen by one of the leading headache specialists in the UK. He is trying to find the cause of my CDH and sort that, and then he said he would tackle my hemiplegic migraines.

I would be interested to hear from other people who suffer from hemiplegic migraines.

Hi Kala,

Welcome to Healing Well. It's good to see you here! I have not used flunarizine myself, how have you found it and how long have you been on it?

I hope you get something sorted very soon, preferably an appointment to see the specialist as soon as poss as I know you are suffering quite a lot at the moment.

take care

Hi Ann,

I have been taking Flunarizine (which is a calcium channel blocker) for about 18 months now. The specialist was hoping that this medication would completely eradicate my hemiplegic migraines but unfortunately it hasn't, so this was on of the reasons I was admitted. I have found that my attack continue to follow there same eight week cycle but each one has been very slightly less severe than the previous one...so this has given me some hope. And the other reason for being admitted was my CDH which is causing me major problems and unfortunately is becoming progressively worse.

Thank you for your support Ann.

Take care,

Kala
