hi, im 19 and have been suffering from what we think is migraine all my life. It has varied only slightly over the years, but has always occured roughly once every 10 weeks and symptoms last on average 5-7 days. I have visited countless doctors, a neurologist, migraine specialists, and tried various medications including stemetil, pizotifen, betahistine tablets, none of whom or which have helped.

Throughout the period of being ill, i will get major attacks brought on mostly by movement, i get increasingly hot and shaky, my breathing becomes heavy, severe dizziness and feeling weak which means i am often unable to stand, i go very pale and also nausea and vomiting, my eyes are very very sensitive to light, and smells increase the feeling of nausea, after a while i will feel very cold although i still feel hot to touch, i also feel quite thirsty and feel very fatigued and often emotional, although this is mainly through the frustration of being ill.

Many doctors have said this is migraine, although others have said it is not because i do not suffer from bad headaches. I can also predict an attack for up to weeks before i am actually ill, as i get a strange feeling in my head like pressure and feel like my eyes cannot focus properly. I have not been able to detect any triggers, although when i am ill attacks are made worse when i get nervous or flustered. We have no history of migraine in the family, however my younger brother suffers similarly but his symptoms are not as bad and he seems to have grown out of it. Does anyone else get anything similar to this? and can anyone give me any more advice on what to do, or tablets that might help please? any help is very much appreciated, as this has been very frustrating to me and my family! Thanks.

Hi Flossy,

Welcome to Healing Well. My word you have been through a lot in your young life!! I am amazed that a Headache Specialist has not been able to help you with these awful migraines, as they are best placed to know your medical history etc, and to work out the best way forward.

We are just sufferers here and not medical professionals to be able to give advice! I think your best plan of action would be to go back to the Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist and go from there. I am reluctant to suggest any meds that I have tried at the moment as you say that during an attack you experience heavy breathing and dizziness.

We will support you as best we can, take care

Ann

HI you might want to start taking Magnesium Asporotate  I started with 2 capsules every day now I hardly take them unless I get a headache   but I hardly ever get migraines anymore. GYN is a naturalist and told me about this.

Hi

Have you seen a neurologist?

Sometimes there are migraines without the actual headpain....

But there is also a type of epilepsy that mimicks the symptoms as well--- my friend was diagnosed with abdominal migraine....she would feel sick and lightheaded and a bit offish....was finally diagnosed with frontal lobe epilepsy ---which is a seizure but they dont lose consciousness--they just look like they are day dreaming for a few seconds but then they can have the abdo pain/dizziness etc etc

Not saying you have this--just that sometimes you need to keep at the Drs to find the right diagnosis and right treatment!

hope all goes well

xx

Hi Flossy,

Welcome to Healing Well. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing such a difficult set of symptoms with no relief. I can sympathize at how frustrating it can be when you have been sick for several days.

There are such things as migraines without pain. There are a few people on this forum who experience them.

As Annuk pointed out, we're not medical professionals, but we're sufferers like you. Hopefully it helps knowing that others experience chronic symptoms as well.

If it is a migraine, then the best professional to see is a neurologist who specializes in headaches. Have your doctors done things like CAT scans, MRIs? If the doctors you are seeing are helping, I would recommend asking to be referred to another one.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Have you had an EEG? You have no headpain right? I would look into EEG for different type of seizures....now don't start worrying, just suggestion.
The only other thing I know to say is I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. I am 21 and have had migraines since Highschool. I have had to withdraw from college b/c of them and some other issues.
I wish you the best. Stay strong and try not to let this horrible thing take too much controll. NEver stop looking for answers. I pray for you tonight, and wish you the best.
