I have migraines and crohn's disease. I was having a two year remisssion from my crohn's when my migraines started getting unbearable.  My doctor put me on 50 mg topamax a day , which was great for the migraines, but 2 weeks after being on topamax, I started a flare-up of my crohn's disease.  At first, I didn't connect the two , but after taking both prednisone for several weeks and having a remicade treatment, I can't stop the flare-up and I am starting to think it's the topamax.  Did anyone ever experience anything similar or does anyone have both illnesses?  I would appreciate any help on this because I don't want to give up topamax but I want to get rid of my crohn's.

I actually use elavil for my migraines it works bery well.  They tried to switch me to topomax and it caused me to have suicidal thoughts.  I immediately stoppd the topomax and called my Dr he had me just go back to how it was before with the elavil.

I have irritable bowel syndrome and have been taking 75 mg of topamax for several years, and I am convinced that the topamax has improved my IBS symptoms by reducing the spasms in my intestines.  My sister has Crohns disease and terrible migraines and she takes 200 mgs of topamax daily for her migraines with no effects on her Crohns.  But, I suppose it could be the combination of drugs you are taking.
