Hi JDyzzle,

Welcome to Healing Well. There is not a definitive test for Cluster Headache as such. It is usually determined from information that the Doctor has collated from the patient by asking many questions about symptoms etc. together with ensuring they have a clear MRI scan and a neurological physical examination.

I must say that Midrin is not usually given for Cluster Headache but is given for Migraine, treatment for Cluster is usually Imitrex Injections and high flow oxygen.

Was your diagnosis made by a Neurologist? Please feel free to ask any more questions you may have!

take care

this is what my gp told me, he didn't think i needed to see a neurologist and to be honest i just can't afford to. but i don't think my headaches really fit in with what i have read about cluster headaches. they really sound more like migraine. i have had these headaches since i was about 7 and they can be excruciating. i've never been prescribed anything for them before, i've always just suffered them out. i've always been told they were tension headaches and to take some advil or aleeve. here lately i have had a headache to some degree every day for about a month and a half so i decided to press the issue with my dr. i use the phrase my dr loosely because i go to a low income clinic and never know who i may be seeing. he is the one who mentioned cluster headaches mainly i think because my headaches always end up centering in my left eye. i know i'm rambling but i'm confused. there are so many diff headaches and meds. i'm tired of hurting allll the time and i'm tired of seeming like i'm pushing my 5yr old away because i don't feel like playing with her. i just started taking the midrin and it helped yesterday on a mild headache, and suprise i didn't have one today, yet. but i can't seem to get hopeful because from what i have read on here alot of these meds quit working after a while. i guess i'll get this mess sorted out somehow. i really appreciate you replying to my post and i look forward to any more info you can spare, thanks again
