Hi, my husband has been diagnosed with basilar migraines and his neurologist put him on amitriptyline - started at 25 mg, then 50 mg and now 100 mg per day at nighttime.  The doctor keeps telling us to let the medicine work but it has been three months now and the past week has not been a good one.

How long does it take for the medicine to work?

What kind of dosages are others on?

It took us three years to find someone to diagnose the migraines and now help us with the migraines and now she keeps telling us to wait for the medicine to work.

Thanks for any help you can give us.

i thought that was an anxiety med, not a headache med, i was prescribed a headache med with codeine, clonozapam and amitryptline also . I was told to take the amitriptyline before bed because of restless legs, and not being able to sleep.

It shouldn't be taking this long to work. Worked the first time i took it but i stopped because i don't want to be on meds and want my condition, whatever it is, to be cured.

I would advice a good diet and vitamin regimin, just do a search on here and this board for some good things to take like calcium , magnesium, arginine, b 2, etc
