Ok..well I'm home from a hospital stay with Bronchitis, Phenomia(sp?), and aspiration of stomach acid.(fun stuff) but this post doesn't have much to do with that. Other than, I'm ready to be well.
I have an appt. tomorrow with my PCP, and I need to spill my heart and soul to him.
One-SOMETHING is wrong with me. What 22 y/o basically has something wrong with her every week?? Right now my potassium is low, so low I couldn't leave the hospital yesterday. I get fatigued, joint pain, stomach problems, prone to illness, unexplained weight gain that I can't lose, depression/anxiety, and whole book of complex stuff.
TWO- My migraines, are killing me. Maybe not litterally, but I can't handle it anymore. The neruo's I can see, won't see me saying there is nothing more they can do. I've tried EVERY preventative, abortive, etc. They last at least 12 hours, of pain, nausea, you know the whole deal. Usually, a shot is the only thing that will rid it. (which I only go to get when phenergan, imitrex, toradol, etc doesn't work.)
I CANNOT go to the walk-in clinic's/hospitals anymore for my migraines. They are just not wanting to treat it either. So my PCP is ALL i have left.
question?- if narcotics work, and I make myself take them responsibly (even giving them to my mom so we know i don't take enough for rebound) is it bad to rely on that for home rescue treatment so I don't have to go anywhere??? I know this sounds crazy for a 22 y/o but I've read a lot of using oral Fentyl (Atiq) for rescue of severe migraine.
If I did do this, i would ask for like, 6 a month, and give them to my mom, and only use it in a crisis, "OMG i can't take it "headache.
Also, I've heard of docs. prescribing Nubain INJ. to use at home(which is what I get if I go somewhere for a shot). This again, I would have my mom moderate.
-should I just go to a pain doctor? would this make my PCP more comfortable you think?
Please hear me, I do not want to be on narcotics long term or regularly, but sometimes thats my only option, and i just don't have any doctors willing to help my anymore.
I start counciling on wednesday, have topamax to try again(but I'm scared to start it b/c of the horrible cognitive effects it had on me last time).
I'm taking a vitamin(barley green), basically I'm doing all I know to do, but don't know what else to do.
I can't live this way. I just got a new job. I have to be there everyday, and I want to be, and I like it, but I don't want to dissapoint them, or let them down. My Mother, bless her heart, is about to have a nervous breakdown(she is my caregiver when I'm down and sick) and she doesn't know what to do either. It kills me to see her hurting and tired.
Ok, maybe this is just a huge vent, but I need advice.
I think i may just print this out and read it to my doctor tomorrow....humm.
Thank you, you are the ones who really do understand this horrible disease, and the pain, not just physical, that comes with it.
God bless you and keep you,

Read the Dr. Dzugan's "The Migraine Cure" Thread. It truly is an amazing treatment and I know several people who have had great results with it.

Helo Ang,
I can totally relate to how you feel . I am in a similar position myself . Personaly I feel if the narcotics help increase your ability to funtion on a daily basis and you are careful about following the doctor's instructions the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Sadly we all know nothing will make these migraines go away so if you can find a combo of drugs that allow you to function at work and have a life it might be the best option for you

Also it is great to hear that you have good support from your family. One thing I do to make sure I do not take too much of the meds is to keep a daily diary of my pain level, weather, meds taken at what time and a list of activities I have done that day. I think balance is important - the difficult part is trying to figure out how much of what to do and what not to do.I will keep you in my prayers

When I read this thread, I felt like I was reading something that I had written.  Over the past month, I have asked the question to myself many, many times - what is the lesser of the two evils?  Not taking all the meds to keep you from getting a migraine and then going to the ER for IV meds or taking the meds at home and staying out of the ER and living my life?????
My neurologist prescribes me a regimine of meds to take for when I feel a migraine starting or if I know the weather is changing.  If I do what he says, I stay out of the ER, stay out of bed with the lights off and my head in a bucket and live my life beautifully.  I don't feel drugged.  I can function great.  So, you ask, what is the problem?  Well, when I have to call the neurologist's office for refills, his assistants act like I am horrible. The doctor has never told me that I am taking too many meds or even how many too take.  I never take more than the directions on the bottle say (ex:  take 1-2 ever 4-6 hours). I also rarely call for refills in between office visits; however, this time, because I have been doing so well, he scheduled my next appointment for 6 months.  I need a refiill on several of the abortive meds and I am scared to call.
Any suggestions out of anyone?  What is the answer?  Should we try to avoid meds unless the pain is absolutely severe and then probably end up in the ER or take the meds early (as prescribed) and avoid the ER?  How do you handle the people that treat you like you are a drug seeker?
I am open to any and all advice.  I feel at my wit's end.  Sounds like I am not the only one.  I have three children who keep me running constantly and I cannot afford to be in bed with a headache for days on end every week.  PLEASE HELP!

i just wanted to update, and you'll see from my signature, I'm doing really well.
I'm doing something called, Energy Medicine (a book by Donna Eden), and Psych-K(google it). There is a woman I see who is a medical intuative, energy medicine fasilitator and does a lot of natural healing.(ex: merdian tracing, tapping, etc). IT HAS CHAHGED MY LIFE! I am off all meds, except for PRN imitrex inj. I have had ONE pain shot in 3 months for a migraine, my depression/anxiety are basically gone, and I have engergy!!
Thanks for all the support and I wish you all the best!!
My one piece of advice, DRINK LOTS OF WATER and eat a healthy diet.
(Engergy flows through hydration.) I've lost 25 ilbs so far and feel good!
