Hi Guys,

I'm new to the board.  I am so happy to find several posts for daily migraines on this board.  I have been looking for good information on the web and have not had much luck finding treatments.   I have been on topomax and now depakote. For me the topomax worked but the side effects stopped me from working.  I ended up swapping for depakote.  The side effects are better and it is also helping.  My doc suggested Cymbalta today.  I am leery to swap again, but I have pain in my abdomen.  He wants to see if it is related to the depakote.  What have others tried?

Tried just about everything...I didn't like the Depakote or should I say my hubby didn't..he said I could had to get off it, turned me into a Ca blonde who forgot how to drive and have a meticulate chk book...so that ended that. Was enough insult for me. Don't you think? LOL..Now I am on the Topamax but I dont like it, and I tried the Nerontin. I made me gain weight and it didn't work either. I can do hormone stuff, I get blood clots, so I don't know what is next but I am wondering how much water you are drinking cause you have to drink A LOT with any of these meds. Did you Dr do a ultra sound, if not I would get a second opinion, might be something like kidney stones.

sad    I can so related to the daily migraines, I woke up this morning at 6:00 with a migraine.  I took a midrin but it really doesn't do alot.  I've been on topamax which is a no, no. I've taken imitrex but couldn't contiune it because it made my chest feel really tight and my heart fealt like it was skipping beats.  And I've tried several others with no luck.

My migraines have also started moving to the back of my head and into my should blades, I guess that could just be tension and I shouldn't worry.  I always worry when they feel different, because I have had brain surgery and there is always that what if in your mind??
The surgery was to remove a lesion on the right side of my brain that was causing me to have complex partial seizures for over 20 plus years.  Praise the Lord I'm seizure free for almost 5 years now!  now to get rid of these migraines  sad

Hey kendyg,

Welcome to the boards.  I've been on every preventative medication there is, and everything has failed for me.  Topamax and Depakote were both poison for me, for different reasons.  Topamax gave me permanent brain/memory imparement and Depakote make me gain tons of weight and gave me a bad eating disorder.  I am currently tapering off Cymbalta, because it just didn work for me.  Plus, it was so incredibly expensive, it was a waste to keep taking it.  It didn't give me any side effects, but I have heard it does work for some people.  I have switched to LEXAPRO as and anti-depressant.  If you could give us a brief history of your medical problems and medication history, it would help us guide you in the right direction.

Let us know how you are doing and we will try to help.
