ive been given these lyrica Pregabalin tablets by doctor at hospital but what i want to find out before i try them is are they any good and does anyone suffer from side effects from them as i read the paper in them and well they freightened me.im suffering migranes daily and have done now for years.its actually part of my life now.and well to be without them would be the best thing in the world.

i recently started going to a chiropractor and well it was costing me 30 pounds a session and after 3 weeks with her i seen results i had no migranes for 4 weeks and this was the 1st time in 5 years ive had nothing.so i thought i would stop going to her now as money was a problem and the pain had gone.so 4 weeks passed by and unfortunately they came back, because i no longer work ive had to stop going to see the chiropractor as cannot afford it,and now ive had to settle for these tablets which i think the doctor is playing a guessing game with me as he said we can only go through with trying certain tables.this is the 2nd time the doctor at the hospital has given me tablets but i thought i would ask for your help before i do try them please

If you search this forum, there was a thread on Lyrica a month or so ago. I've recently started on Lyrica and haven't noticed any side effects. The jury is still out as to whether it's helping.

You're absolutely right about doctors playing a guessing game with headache medicines. Most of us here have tried dozens of different meds, as we and our docs try to find out what works for us. What's most frustrating to me is when a medication works for awhile, but then loses its effectiveness. Although, perhaps your situation of finding something that helps (chiropractor) but having to stop for financial reasons might be even worse. Maybe you can go less frequently (when I've tried chiropractors, they always wanted me there every couple of days) -- perhaps once a week would be cheaper and almost as effective.

Best of luck!

Hi Fisherman,

The thing is with drugs like Lyrica, they affect people differently! One person will get on well with it and another will not!

I know that I have read the paper that comes with the drugs and have scared myself witless sometimes, and if I took every last word to heart I would never try anything!!! The drug companies have to be clear about what the possibilties are, but it is doubful that you will be affected by all of it!!!!

If you are still anxious about this talk to your Doctor or a pharmacist about the side effects versus your situation!

It may be worth trying Lyrica for a while and see how you go with it, and if it becomes a problem you have the option to stop it, as long as you follow the Doctors instructions if it has to be tapered!

All the best with this, let us know how you get on, take care

Hi Fisherman,

Sorry if what I said has mislead you in any way, but no I do not take Lyrica, I take Topiramate! This also has a few not so nice side effects!!

I have not tried Lyrica myself, so I cannot speak from personal experience, but I may still be offered this drug to try at some stage! I have got to say I do not much like the idea of trying it myself for the reasons you are reluctant as I drive, and do not want to jeapodise that!

But on the other hand because of what I would otherwise go through I would be willing to give it a try in the short term!!!! Hope this helps!

take care

Fisherman,

Chiropracters didn't help me, even though my headaches are clearly related to muscle tension and neck problems. I tried several different ones over a couple of years and the only lasting effect was less money in my pocket! I'm glad to hear they work for you.

I've only been on Lyrica for about a month, and my headache doc will likely increase my dosage when I see her next in a couple of weeks. I think it's helping some, but not enough --however, at least I don't have the side effects I had with other meds (like depakote and topamax). Lyrica doesn't make me sleepy or gain weight, or any of the other side effects the package inserts warn about. I drive all the time; the warning on the product's website just says to see how the medicine affects you before you drive, not that you can't drive while on it.

Treating headaches is really all experimentation to find out what works for an individual with the least side effects. Then the patient has to decide if the side effects (including cost!) are worth the relief you get. Good luck in finding the right mix for you.
