Hello everyone, has anyone ever heard of or had DHE drip, my new neurologist said he would put me in the hospital for a couple of days and give me a DHE drip if I get in a cycle where my migraine will not break. This is the first time I have heard of this and wonder if anyone has had any dealings with this. Also has anyone had decadron, I had that in the ER today along with Benadryl, Toradol, and Phenergan. All of this eased my migraine but I still had to take Fiorinal when I got home. The fiorinal spaces me out and will not get rid of the migraine on its own, I also take fiorcet which does the same as the fiorinal. I have been to the ER several times in the past month, the only thing that gets rid of my migraine is Dilaudid, but the ER doc's refuse to give me this anymore because they say I will become addicted..... but they don't have migraines..... sometimes I wish everyone could spend one month of my life so they would know what I go through.

sweety, at least you've found a place where you can find people who know what your going through. ERs and migraines are just no fun. BUt it is good that the DHE and combo helped. I have had DHE drips before, but they just make me throw up really bad, but it did help a few times. If it works for you, ask about Migranol, a DHE nasal spray, and I even used DHE self administered shots.
Be careful with the Fiorina and Fiorcet, b/c it can cause rebound headaches. don't take more that 2 on any pain med, OTC or Prescription is the general rule for us migraine sufferers.
I say all that, and I'm down to having to use Fentanyl Suckers for the really bad kickers, b/c ER docs and walk in Docs, were refusing to treat me. I get 30 for 3 months and they really help, you just have to be carefull not to use it to much.
I"m so sorry you have to suffer from this.
I hope you get the support and information your looking for and need.
Ang
PS:does your neuro have you on any preventatives, abortives, etc???

oh, and decatron is a steroid that is used a lot by neuro's and doc's that don't use narcotics, it did nothing for me but make my face turn red, but it sometimes helps people. I have it given to me in shot form at the doc's office. NOTHING, as usual.

My doctor has actually prescribed DHE injections for me to do at home. I take Zofran about 30 minutes prior to a DHE injection as they can make you nauseated. I have to say I have literally been on everything ( I have a two page list I keep with my medical records!) and Topamax as a preventative and DHE with migraines level 6-10, has been the best "cocktail" for me.

Good luck with the DHE, like everything else it affects everyone differently
