My question entails tapering off this med prior to pregnancy.  Sometime in december I will have a colonoscopy and the okay from my GI to start trying for a family.  I am currently on 100 mg of amitriptyline and was wondering if anyone has stayed on this drug while pregnant or how long it took you to taper off this med?

Hi Stef,

The best advice I can give you to taper off this med is to taper off as fast and in the same way as you tapered on, if you understand what I mean??? So if you started taking this med in 25mg increments for a period of one week reduce it by 25mg increments for one week at a time!

I have just given the 25mg as an example, if you are unsure consult your Doctor. As for pregnancy I cannot say, from a personal point of view I would not take any meds during pregnancy. I do not even know if this med is safe even during pregnancy - it may not be, please consult your Doctor!

Hope this helps, all the best with starting a family, take care
