Hello everyone-
I am new here.  I have a history of health problems, namely Fibro, anxiety/panic disorder, & neck problems. I have chronic sinusitis and allergies. I get these horrible headaches almost daily. I have had the typical migraine headache several times where I see an aura first, then have the blinding headache after where I need to lie down with ice on my head in the dark.   For the past year, I have been getting severe bouts of dizziness - the kind where I feel like I will fall while walking or where I can't focus my eyes.  I went to ENT and had all this dizzness testing and hearing tests, which were all normal.
He said (and my rheumatologist agreed) that I have vestibular migraines, which are an inner ear migraine. I had never heard of that before, in all my years of research. This was a relief in a way, since it was nothing serious - I was so worried, which I think made the pain worse.
Does anyone else get this kind of headache, and if so what do you do for it?  They put me on Topamax (I've been on other migraine meds before that I couldn't tolerate) - I already had to have the dosage lowered because I couldn't handle 50 mg of the Topamax. I'm praying this works.  Any advice, please.

I plan on talking to my neuro about that and also basilar migraines. I have had an increase in migraines and in symptoms. Dizziness is a really bad problem, today it takes everything I have to walk straight.

I have been taking Topomax for years. Takes a few weeks for it to really kick in and for side effect to disappear. Dosage can be adjusted easily on that med so don't hesitate to call your doc if you feel you need less or more.

I too have been diagnosed with vestibular migraines. I also had a chiari malformation and had surgery for that in June of 2006. Unfortunately I'm not sure that helped me that much....I'm 99% certain that my daily issues with dizziness is related to vestibular migraines. The neurologist that I'm currently seeing has me on imipramine which seems to help me with the anxiety part of my symptoms.
You may want to research MARD (Migraine Anxiety Related Disorder)....the vestibular system along with migraines and anxiety are all interrelated.
I wish you well.

I'm so relieved to finally find someone with this problem. My mother works for an ENT so I asked her if she had ever heard of this - she told me that people with vestibular problems are just "nuts" (she doesn't use the kindest terms, I know). So I told my Dr what she said, and he kind of just looked at me and said "well, they are treated with anti-anxiety meds" which led me to believe that he was agreeing with her.  Then he said he wanted me to see a psychiatrist for other meds. (he is my rheumatologist treating me for Fibromyalgia).

Thank you for your info - I will definietly look into this.
