Has anyone ever heard of a low blood pressure med that is used for migraines? My doctor was going to prescribe this but opted for something else. I don't know what the med was called though.

Does anyone have an ideas?

Thanks

Hi ,

Sometimes we use Inderal or Toprol for migraines but they tend not to work as well as other meds. Also Inderal can't be taken if you have asthma..rarely Verapamil works for migraine but can be used if the patient has alot of vertigo as it treats that pretty well.

You are on a good drug right now that I prescribe for severe migraines and post traumatic injury (TBI)..Seraquel.  It seems to do best when combined with Topamax,,even if you failed on Topamax before.

There is no research yet to document this as it is just a clinical observation of mine, but we see over 16,000 headache patients per year at our clinic and I am impressed with the results so far. Please discuss it with your doctor as it may help..

Thanks for your response. I have not actually started the seroquel yet, I get nervous taking meds like that. But this is even more incentive to start taking it asap. I'm concerned about the sleepiness that comes with this medicine.

I have heard of Topomax but have not been treated with it. I have actually just been diagnosed with migraines on Friday, so I haven't taken anything for them yet except advil.

I was prescribed Elavil but it looks like I won't be able to take it due to bipolar II. It also causes weigh gain. Which is unacceptable.

I think it is interesting that Seroquel helps w/ migraines, since the Rx bottle it says may cause headaches. What are your thoughts on this? Does it do just the opposite to people who already have headaches?

I really appreciate your input.

Thanks
