I was just told I have this type of migraine. i've had migraines since I was 13, but just had a serious episode with numbness, confusion, and of course head pain. I've never had an upset stomach like this in my life. I've read past postings about the subject but would love to talk to some people with the same thing. Any words of advice would be great. Luckily I love my neurologist, but am so very frustrated about the way i feel. I am extremely active and am not used to depending on others or having restrictions!
I've been put on sick leave until my doctor and I can get a handle on what is going on, so I have plenty of time on my hands. That is frustrating as well... when I get up in the morning I feel okay, thinking I should be at work but by 1:00 I am really sick again.
Thank you.

I also deal with these type of migraines. My neurologist put me on topamax every day and it has really seemed to help me. I also have parkinsons disease. I started an exercise program, 3 days a week and I think that has helped me more than anything else. I still get the migraines, but not the severity to which I end up in the hospital. When I feel one coming on, now that I know the warning signs, I usually go and work out and remakably, the headach will subside or diminish enough not to interfere with my acitivites of daily living. I don't know your circumstances, but it might be something to look into and talk with your doctor about. Blessings on your day.

I also suffer from hemiplegic migraines and was first diagnosed at the age of seven, I am now 31. I have tried virtually all preventative medications to try and control my attacks but with little success. Unfortunately I am very susceptible to side-effects, some of which even my consultants haven't heard of before. For example, I am currently taking Flunarazine and have been for over two years but due to side-effects I am back to the starting dose. I experienced severe muscle and joint pain, chest pain, numbness in my toes and I had the sensation that I was walking on broken glass (not nice!!) Thankfully since reducing the dose these symptoms have subsided but I am concerend that my attacks may return to their original severity. So one of my consultants is wanting to put me back on Topamax (as well as continue with the Flunarazine) but just at a very low dose as the side-effects I experienced were horrendous.

I have an attack every six to eight weeks which at their worst can last up to 12 days. Also I have tried numerous acute treatments but with very little success. I have been unable to find any triggers for these attacks, they are just part of me!
As well as hemiplegic migraines I also experience migraine with and without aura, and what is really grinding me down is my CDHs. These are what my cosnultants are trying to sort first and then they will tackle my hemiplegic migraines.
I hope you find some relieve.
