Hey everyone, just putting an update that I just got out of the hospital yesterday, I was in for severe cramps and then numbness in me right leg, If anyone remembers in October, I had to go by ambulance because of both legs did the same. After steroids, crappy food and a crappy bed I'm finally home. They did a MRI of my brain and Spine this time (first time for Spine). Nothing showed in my spine but I have a big lesion on the base of my brain, they grew since October, which explains the leg problems

My Nero does not want to change any meds yet, but is suggesting Tysabri. He wants to wait and see what the steroids are going to do...

I really hate all this waiting, I've been on Betaseron now for 8 months, I would like to know if it's even working or not. But still have to wait instead.

Now I got ten tons of stress about everything for my job to obviously my health... Don't know what to do... I think my wife thinks I'm going loony or something. I also feel my cognitive problems are worsening, someone told me to look into a Neurophyscologist.(don't know spelling but you get the point).... Any feedback would be great Thanks all

Hi Tertle,

Wow, I’m sorry you are having such a rough time and had to be hospitalized again! From what I’ve heard, neuropsychological testing can help determine what cognitive issues you are having. After the assessment, you can sometimes learn some strategies or get on medication to help with these issues. There are members on this board who are on tysabri, and probably some who have had first-hand experience with the neuropsych testing. Hopefully they will be along and will be able to give you better feedback than I. I just wanted to say hang in there with all that stress.

Please do come back and give us another update. I hope the steroids ease this flare for you quickly.

Great link, Sunny! Yes, Tertle, the neuropsych testing really can be helpfu. And if you DO need to go on short- or long-term disability, or quit altogether and apply for SSDI, the results of the testing can be helpful in that process as well.

I'm sorry you had to go to "da joint", and very glad you're home. Take care.

Just wondering, I probably have to get a referral from my doc to go see one huh?

I hope that when I try to explain to him how much this is affecting me he won't look at me like I don't know what I'm talking about.- kinda like when I first told him my problems, he basically said that it is common for MS and blew it off.

I need to get a grip on this or the stress of everything is gonna take it's toll again.... and I don't want that.

Oh one more ? does anyone get assistance for their prescription drugs?

Yes, you'd need a referral from your doctor to see a neuropsychologist (or psychiatrist).

As for your prescription drugs -- all the drug companies have some plans available for people with no insurance, or limited insurance benefits.  You do need to fill out paperwork and disclose your income and such, but if you are eligible, they can be a big help. I do have insurance and only have to pay $15 / month co-pay for my Betaseron, the same co-pay as for any other prescription drug.

Thanks uppity,

I figured I would have to get a referral. I'll just tell him to give it to me or I'll get it somewhere else.

That is not bad at all, $15/month. I'm paying over $100/month just for Betaseron alone. something is wrong there.

I found a application online for assistance with Betaseron, so we'll see.... Thanks again

Hi Tertle! I don't have any wonderful words of wisdom and I haven't had to deal with all the lovely symptoms of MS for as long as you have but I wanted to say I understand about the stress and the toll it can play on one's health. I hope that you can find some relief and perhaps some assistance for your meds. I have to say I thought I had fairly good insurance, I'm taking Avonex once a week and paying over $200 so I guess I'm not as well as I thought! Ha!

Blessings!
