Hi all I have a question maybe some of you remember my steroid incident and the insurance. It has not be solved yet I am working on it.My problem is I have THE NUMBER ONE NEURO in this area.I travel at least 45 miles to see him. With the steroid problem and the liver elevated problem I can not get ahold of anybody in his office to help me.The nurse doesnt answer her phone.Voice mail comes on an disconnects me.When I got a live person to talk to she told me to fight it out with my insurance companies.Which I am.She was the one who set the whole thing up last year..Now she doesnt remember. She told me if I quit taking them I am gonna get worse duh....I am already there. When I called and called and asked to talk to him between patients they wouldnt let me..Sorry about the ramblin. My question is should I stick with the best dr. who is unacessable to me or should I switch to another dr. who I can get ahold of?I am pleased with the dr. but his staff wow.I dont see him til july.An how do I know if he even knows any of this? I dont-- and the whole thing has me in what I call a mini flare..Any advice would be appreciated.. sad barb

Barb,

It seems to me that the best is not working for you.  I would go ahead and give another doctor a try.  Trying another doctor does not mean a permanent change.  You could try another doctor and then if that doesn't work, try yet another one or go back to the first.  In the mean time, I would write a detailed letter to your doctor explaining that you have tried to reach him and that he has failed to get back to you.  You can tell him that his office staff has not made this easy for you.  The bottom line is, it is his job to get back to you and he has not done that.  He may be the best, but if he is not helping you.............

Good luck, Barb.

Love and prayers,

Very often the "best doctor" in any specialty is also the BUSIEST doctor.  And specialists are notorious for being busy, for being not really interested in "seeing" patients. They want to dazzle folks with their diagnostic abilities, but then pass the patient on to the family doctor (which of course is a specialty, too, generally entered in to by people who WANT to see people/patients on a regular basis).

I'd find a doctor you're comfortable with that will actually respond to your questions.  Get the records from the specialist transfered to the doctor you like, and ask him/her to "consult" with the specialist if/when needed.

...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....

Geez Barb,
I have to agree with the girls on this. I would try to find a neuro who is going to know your case and be there for you when you need him/her. That would make me crazy if I  couldn't get my doctor. You don't deserve that. I would look else where Barb. And like G said you can always go back. Good Luck!
