Do you all get frequent headaches/migraines or tension headaches too? All or some? What are you taking, does it help? And do you think the MS is to blame?

Hey Nichole

I get pain in my eye that is supposed to be ON, but i'm really just not sure what to believe. It's been dx'd as migraines in the past and is currently being treated with high blood pressure/angina meds. Migraines have been linked to ms in the past as are generalized headaches. I"m not sure i could say they are a result of or part of ms, but there does seem to be some connection.

Have u discussed headaches with u'r neuro?? If u are having migraines that'd be who u see...especially if they are or could be related to u'r ms. Please do report this to u'r doc soon and don't hurt without any help. Take good care friend.

Headaches along with the initial loss of motor control in my right hand is what sent me to the neuro to begin with. He dx'd me with atypical migraines and put me on topamax daily, up to 1oomg.. but I've had to drop it back to 50-75mg (I get too emotional or flat effected) and it maintains me for the most part. I still get a few a month, that I manage with Maxalt, we tried Imitrex but it wiped me out completely after using it, Maxalt allows me to continue to function still and release the migraine.

Rhonda, I have ON in the right eye, and the migraines are always located in that vicinity... interesting corelation I guess. Though I've figured out that when the eye tics begin, they usually precede a bout with ON, and an oncoming migraine. Kinda weird. The other weird thing is that, that part of my face is also "numb".

Hey Deb

Yeah interesting. I get them in my right eye only and that side is the side that has always been affected by all these odd ms'ish symptoms. My right side of my face is the side that first became numb and is somewhat numb most of the time as is my right ear. I use Maxalt as well and it's great sometimes, but sometimes just doesn't work. Lately i've had to use two at a time (an hour apart) to get any effect, but my doc recently prescribed this new med...calan...as more a preventative to try. So far it's a bit better i guess. I usually can go awhile without a full blown episode..then when it starts it sticks around for several days or longer. Most of the time i have some sort of soreness or pain in that eye whether i'm having an 'episode' or not. Anyway, only more time will tell if this new med is really going to work or if i'm just in a time of waning. Take care!

Hey Rhonda, great info, thanks! My Neuro keeps making notes and I always think he thinks I'm nuts until when I ask point blank if something else is going on, he says, no, you've got all this... (and waves his hand in the direction of my head to my toes) numbness, headaches, eyes etc... 'we've got MS here.'

But it's so good to hear a right sided (or even one-sided pain person) cos these have been happening since the 80's. To be really really straight up, exactly all the same symptoms with my right eye (except motion/light shadows and poor night vision) took place after my son's birth in 1977  (except no one called it ON): unequal pupils, major right sided headaches and minor vision shifts but nothing permnanently disturbing. But no one could find anything and no one looked deeper.  Year progressed and more little symptoms popped up, but then then the numbs spots set up in the 90's. Now it's like a littany of symptoms.

I'll keep that med in mind... right now I can't tell if the LP has triggered a nasty migraine or I'm just having some weird reaction.

I am currently taking Topamax, just switched from my five yr rx of Inderal. I get them all, head pains, tension, migraines, regular headaches...My right eye has a "heartbeat"...I think this is part of the inflammation and why I am on the steroid eye drops...I wonder if that causes the headaches too...all this wondering
