This is a happy post. I think I've hit a "peaceful period". It's kind of odd because for most of the month of June I thought I was at war with my body in just about every symptom going nuts on me and then the beginning of July around the week after the 4th (I should keep better notes but I tire of the same ol' same ol') it seemed that the spasticity got figured out and by the time I left on vacation for Alaska July 17, it had subsided to a tolerable point, and since being in Alaska for 10 days where the weather was gloriously "chilly" I feel downright fabulous!

All I've got going on now seems to be minor stuff like the creepy crawlies, minor pain twinges, little things (compared to the full blown pain of June, this is a peice of cake).

So are there dots to connect here? Is this what it's like for a "flare" to subside and my body to settle down? Is it climate related or even altitude related? Hubby thinks being in higher altitude AND cooler weather of Alaska might have been a good combination for my body cos I hardly had any major pains or spasticity... just some of the leg weakness.

I'm smiling though cos I get to see my neuro and it's gonna be a happy visit (even if I do walk drunk still) to report these nice results! I just want to learn the MS routine and figure out what's what... then I won't be surprised when something hits the next time.

Hey Deb

I was thinking the same thing as i read u'r post...the weather was likely a factor in u'r good feelings. Remember, u live in that 'wet' (hehe) humidity area and it's ooooh so hot in june and july down here, so take note and see if u begin to feel those old pains come back and maybe even how quickly. I do hope it's the end of a flare and u'r going to do just great tho!! Something else i wondered about... Oftentimes when we go on vac we just let go and leave the world behind us. We are somehow able to forget things that worry us or for whatever reason bother us and just live in ourselves and for that time. Its such a release and so calming sometimes to just get away. Could u have finally gotten a break and let go of some of the worries related to u'r health and somehow gotten a reprieve??? Stress can do all sorts of things to our bodies and make us so sick. Just a thought.

I'm so glad u'r feeling better friend! I will keep u in my prayers and hope for this to continue.

Hey Rhonda,
yeah I think the vacation thing helped alot on that... but with me I'm kinda weird... I have remote access on my second job so I still did some work in the afternoons and evenings while my son and hubby were out fishing and my friend was tending to her bed & breakfast duties... my work isn't my stressors... my body is. :)

But I do know the weather was definitely wonderful! My favorite time of day here is when I crawl into bed and get between those ice cold sheets! It's heavenly untill they catch up to my body temp whereas up there, everything stays chilled....so I'd say you're on the right track with the weather affectiveness.... plus the storminess wasn't there.

I didn't have one single bout of restless legs while there. Their rain was just rain drops, drizzle... our rains are storms, thunder & lightning, invariably before they come on, I've usually got a bout of restless legs the night before... it's a very weird barometer built into me but it's 99% true so far!

But for now, the big pain flare part is gone. Looking forward to sharing that with my neuro and getting his impression on all this. :)

Hey Deb

One little 'home remedy' sort of thing that may be an idea on helping keep the cold sheets cold. Rice holds cold for several hours. U can freeze rice and just before bed put some in a pillow case or other closed cloth object and it'll help keep the sheets cooler for hours after u've gone to sleep. That's one of the little tricks my old grandma used to use when she had small children and no AC!

Oh excellent idea, Rhonda thanks! I shall get my bag of rice tomorrow and do that! I know I just love that feeling and man, I'd give anything to have a "cooling" pad like they make heating pads! :)

What about putting some in a tube sock and knotting or sewing it shut?

ooh, Gretchen now that's a great idea! Gotta go find hubby's socks and then snitch his rice from the freezer... he already keeps a bag of it in there but it's already open ... with my 5 cats around at night I could just see waking up in a bed of rice and explaining that one to hubby! :)
