Hi

I  just had a lumbar puncture Sunday am........It is now Tues. afternoon & I CANT get up! The pain in my head is SOO severe. When I lie down, its fine.

I feel pressure in my ears too. I've been lying here for 2 days.

I'm hoping to get some help/questions answered by you,

The ER told me come back for a bloodpatch.

My MD told me wait 1 week?

What exactly am I waiting to happen?

Will the spinal fluid come back or will I be like this forever??  Is it dangerous not having this fluid & how does it reguvinate?

 PLEASE HELP! mad

thx

Hey Briansmom

Welcome to the board. I'm so sorry for the pain u'r in! Yes, do try to go back for the blood patch. I'd call the doc and see if u can convince him/her to ok this. If not then as far as i'm aware, u do have to wait. The facility u would use for this proceedure will not do it without a doctor's order. Otherwise, just lay flat...i'm sorry...for a long and as much as u can. Drink plenty of fluids and get some caffiene in u. That caffiene seems to help in speeding recovery of the headache. Take care friend and please let us know the results of the test and how u'r doing.

Hello,

I had a spinal tap back in July. It was the worst experience of my life...same as you, day after day without being able to get up off the couch without an unbearable headache. I had the option of going to the ER for the patch, but decided to wait it out, because I couldn't imaging waiting in an ER with this pain. Mine lasted 5 days.......I drank a ton of caffeine...like 5 cans of pop a day...and it eventually subsided. The fluids and especially the pop really helped once I figured that part out. I really feel for you. It will go away though!

I just posted a new forum on this subject...I had LP on the 6th of Sept - Blood Patch on the 18th - still have headache. The blood patch at least made it so now caffeine seems to help my headache - and it's not really an ache as much as pressure - pressure which I feel when I talk - strain - walk...I can be up now - but this reminds me it's here all the time! When caffeine wears off it reminds me quickly it has! I am so scared this will never go away - I'm at 2 weeks now...
