Since June I have been waiting to find out what is wrong. The MRI showed several white matter lesions in my brain. I had a spinal/lumbar puncture and I just found out from my gp that it came out good, all clear and they did not find what they look for for an ms dx. However, I meet with the neurologist Tuesday and am very anxious. Does any one know if the spinal tap would rule out ms?

The spinal tap will only rule out MS if it clearly shows an infection or disease of another kind.  If you are hearing that your spinal was all clear, than I can't imagine that MS could be ruled out.  They may put you on the "watch and wait" deal.  Ask your neuro on Tuesday what else could be causing your symptoms and the lesions if it is not MS.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I guess what I thought was good news isn't. They said something about the protein is generally higher with MS. Do you have any idea what that means? Thank-you.

This is what I found on line and thought this was what the Dr. meant

"The doctor is looking for the presence of oligoclonal bands (an increased number of certain antibodies), which is an indicator of increased immune activity in the spinal fluid. This test is positive in up to 90% of people with MS, but is not specific to MS"

I don't know what the protein thing is.  I only know about the oligoclonal bands.  Those bands indicate a antibody or immune response and they know whether or not that response is specific for the central nervous system ( as opposed the blood ).   You may have to wait until you see the doctor.  I am sure that Tuesday cannot come soon enough for you.  Let us know what you find out.  Good luck.
