Hello everyone.........its flu season! I got my shot and the next day, had the flu....slept for 12 hours, weak, a lot of body aches. Better now, but still there are times I need to lie down and pass out.

These flu shots don't always work either. One year it did zero for me. Really got the flu that year.

What is it with the flu that strikes us so hard? I know our immune systems are crap. I also get "brain fog" when I get a bad cold. I can't concentrate on anything, not even able to listen to music. I take vitamins, minerals and I eat healthy. I also have IBS , just to make life more annoying.
It seemed like a good idea at the time

I got my shot last week on the recommendation of my neuro. Its the first time I have ever had one. I got a sore shoulder and have been sick the last two days. I am hoping tomorrow will be the end of it. Depending on the winter months I may think twice next year.

Hi Guys,

I am sorry you both reacted to the flu shot so badly.  There is a lot of controversy with vaccines and MS.  My neuro says there is always some risk that the flu shot is going to trigger an immune response but that the shot is typically more tolerated than the flu itself.  That is one opinion.  Many avoid the shot due to that sort of reaction.  I get the shot every year and I have never had a problem.  I make my boys get the flu shot which I am pretty sure is more important than me having the shot.  A lot of people do it that way; they make sure that everyone in their immediate family gets the shot.

The cold and flu season is a pretty miserable time for us MSers.  I am like you, Dennis, when I get a cold or am sick I am just a mess with MS symptoms.  My vertigo gets worse as well as my areas of spasticity.  It is not a lot of fun.  It seems like the inflammation you have when you get sick just really tweaks the damaged areas of our CNS.

Good luck am I hope that you are both feeling better soon.

Feeling much better today. Hopefully next year (if things go well with it this year) when I have the shot I won't react as badly.
