Hi there, i wonder if anyone woudl kindly advise me.

I have been going to my gp with various things for ages now, he finally sent me to a reumatologist who diagnosed carpel tunnel and osteoarthritis.

I was then sent for nerve conduction tests and today went back for the results, they were negative so i had to describe my symptoms to antoher doctor, basically my feet go numb, i have weak ankes (if i was to stand on the ball of my foor my ankles will give way, it then progressed to my hands going numb in the night and tingling, it then went to the day, i cant hold anything in my left hand with my hand down by my side as i get tingling, ive started to drop things with my left hand, and i have very very limited movelment in my left thumb, it swells etc and i ahve started getting shooting pains down my fingers every so often which takes my breath away and brings tears to my eyes but it passes quickly, this i assume is the arthritis.

Anyway today i had more tests, something similer to a tuning fork, it was banged then put on various points to see how long a felt a vibrating sensation for, this shed some new light sort of i coudlnt feel it in my right foot or left hand, i dont have a very strong grip at all, my hands are quite weak then he asked various other questions, which suprised me i sometimes see lights in my vision, my sleep is eratic as are my moods, i soemtimes get loss of appetite and feel sick, i get headaches, i have become incontinent, i was diagnosed with IBS but i have had bowl discomfort just this week i have started becoming dizzy for seemingly no reason, the worst was yesterday, i had to lean on the wall as i dont like fuss i tried to carry on the conversation but i had to make excuses and leave, it took me by suprise and wasnt nice.

I was suprised by all this today as i thought i had carpel, now i have been sent for an MRI scan and MS was mentioned, now im wuite worried as that sounds bad.

Any advice?

It sounds like your doctor is on top of things right now.  You are very lucky to have a doctor who is trying to figure out what is wrong with you.  Your symptoms could probably be caused by any number of things, so for now it is probably best if you just try to hang in there and cooperate with the tests your doctor is performing.  With any luck, your doctor will figure out what is wrong with you quickly.  Once you know what is causing your problems you should be able to get some treatment to help you.

Try not to worry too much about whether it is MS.  It could be something simpler; and even if you do have MS there are treatments available to improve your quality of life.  Worrying won't help...so try to be patient for now.

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer (Romans 12:12).

hi louise, sounds like i could almost have written your post. i got tired of not being able to use my hands and a surgeon sent me to a neuro for nerve conduction. a couple years, lots of tests, a lyme diagnosis and several second opinions, i'm supposed to start ms tx next month. still don't believe it and i'm not sure what i'm going to do. thanks for your post.

Hi Louise!

I just read your post, and wanted to say g'day and see how you're doing. A proper diagnosis can take time, like others have mentioned, just try to be patient. Be sure to pop in and let us know how you're doing.

Regards
