Hi everybody,

I haven't posted in a long while. This weekend my muscles hurt so bad that I can't even stand up let alone walk. They are so tight that you can actually feel the knots. I am already on gabapentin at night. I have been applying heat. I see the neuro on Tuesday so I haven't put in a call with it being a weekend. My 13 year old has been my savior this weekend. One time I stood up to go to the bathroom and the pain was so bad when I put my right leg down to walk I cried. I hate to do that in front of my kids. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Debbie

Oh Debbie,

I am so sorry!  I don't know what is wrong so I feel like I can't help!  I do think you need to get either a rollater or a wheelchair for these times.  It might help with the pain and it will help with managing things like trips to the bathroom.  If insurance can't help you, call the MS society or look to local charities to have used ones available.  I got a nice wheelchair for 50 bucks for those times.  forearm crutches or double canes might help as well.  I know no one wants to be dependent upon walking aids but you may need to consider this anyway.  I hope you can get some relief soon from your neuro.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Mom... I take Soma for those really bad cramps and spasms. It helps a lot! I only take it at night because it really makes me sleepy, but some people are able to take it during the day too.

For daytime spasms, I take Baclofen. Neurontin (gabapentin) is great for nerve pain but sucks for spasms.

I hope you feel better!

hello mom,

i am still new to this site and have not got a diagnosis yet but i have the symptoms and lesions on my MRI's that are probable to MS. I am fighting with Neurologists about it. Anyways there is my backround real quick for you.

Anyways, i have alot of pain and spasms as well and there are alot of times it hurts so bad to walk and even move sometimes. I have four boys so i know what it is like to have that feeling of crying in front of your kids and it is the most horrible feeling in the world and they don't always understand.

I too am on Neurotin( gabapentin) i take up to 2700mg a day. it helps some pain and the tremors mostly, it doesn't help much for spasms either so i was put on tizanidine which helps. its a muscle relaxer, but not as strong as flexeril at least not for me.

I spent 3 months or so in a wheelchair because it hurt to walk and i didn't have the strength or balance to walk. I got alot of help from my boyfriend at the time and we got a wheelchair from a thrift store. i also got to where i could use a walker around the house.  I still use a cart at stores just to lean on and help support me.

oh duh, sorry i got the walker from a thrift store as well. It was a little embarrassing but not as bad as being picked up off the floor.

so if you have it where you live check like a habitat for humanity store or goodwill.

Ask your doc about tizanidine, it does help.

my mind is jumping around today sorry.

Thanks Everybody,

My Neuro is upping my Gabapentin. Don't know what it will do for the spasms, but they have calmed down for now. She will call in a muscle relaxer if I need it. She was very concerned about the numbness and tingling I have now that it is constant in all extremities, and sometimes travels up my spine and makes my head tingly. She also said my face and neck were redder than usual for me. So she had more blood drawn, and is ordering another MRI to look for changes. When those results come back, she may order another Spinal Tap, but I hope we don't have to go there.

My muscles still hurt alot and cramp, but I can stand at least without crying infront of the kids. I have a cane, but may have to look for a walker, even though I don't want to, I have to remember safety first.

Thanks again,
Debbie

i get that tinging up my spine, and it makes my head tingly, kinda like an internal itch on your brain. It happens alot when someone rubs the bottom of my feet. Do you get ringing in your ears too?? Just recently I have noticed the ringing........
God will Give me nothing i cannot handle--i just wish he didn't trust me so much
