Hi folks,

My name is Barbie. I'm 44 years old and have been living with MS symptoms for nearly 20 years. I was diagnosed in 1995 and finally knew why my legs kept turning to concrete.

At present I am not on a mainstream DMD (mainly due to inadequate - but not inadequate enough - insurance). I take estriol to manage disease activity, Baclofen for spasticity, Inderal for tremors, 5HTP for depression, D3 for...D, n-acetyl cysteine for respiratory and liver protection and Allegra for my year-round allergies.

I have not worked for awhile; I'm fortunate to have a partner who is content to support me and keep me around for companionship. He works, I hang out at home with our two cats and the internet.

My life is in granny low right now, which is probably a good thing. I'm thinking it's time to take the Disability route. I'm using a cane somewhat unsteadily and the tremors and fatigue interfere with many ADL's.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to lots of good reading and maybe making some friends.

Hi Barbie,

Nice to meet you.  I am 31 years old and have been living with MS for 5 years.  I was also diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few months ago, which makes things more interesting.  I should be in low gear, but unfortunately am at a time in my life that doesn't really allow for that.  I have four kids ages 4 to 9, and I am in school full time.  I want to get my degree before my health issues slow me down any more.  I too am blessed with a husband who is content to support me, although I have recently acquired partial disability from the VA, so that helps soften the financial blow.

This website is a good resource.  It can take a couple of days to get a reply because many people are busy with jobs, but you can sometimes get good advice about new symptoms, etc. and it can be a good reminder that you are not alone in your struggles with MS.

Hi Dianna :)

If I were able to be in a higher gear, I probably would be. I'm glad that you are able to do the things that you want and need to at this point in your life.

What is up with the multiple autoimmune thing? As if one is not enough to contend with.

Tell me about it.  I actually have several lovely disorders for which I am being treated.  They all seem to be related somehow.

Have you ever bought a brand new car that just seemed to have countless problems?  Needs new brakes, new engine, new tires, the electronics are askew.  Well that's me, for some reason I have been blessed with a "lemon" for a body.  Last week I had to buy a new pill organizer, one that separates your med's for morning, afternoon, and evening.  It's huge...and full.  Sad.

If only we could trade our old body's in for brand new ones.....I would go for the newer sporty faster, colorful version -

Yes!  I will take a red one with a sunroof.  Oh wait, we were talking bodies, not cars. :)
