I read all the information that MS is incurable, and I wonder exactly where that information comes from. Is it based on a combination of all the drug studies. Or is it some kind of compilation of neurologist reports in following their patients. Also on my other post here it was suggested that MS can include a lot of different kind of symptoms. But at the same time do we not wonder if the opposite might be in play in that a lot of different neurological disorders are being called MS

Dear Mattnapa,

MS falls is the category of neurodegenerative diseases. This means the damage is occurring to the brain tissue. Because brain tissue is not able to regenerate, damage from these diseases are permanent. People will have flare-ups and then go into long periods of remission, but they can never repair the damage.

The damage occurs in different areas of the brain. The specific area affected determines what type of symptoms you will have. For most of us with neurodegenerative diseases, we had these diseases long before the symptoms appeared. Many times neurolgists can not make a final decision on a diagnosis until enough symptoms present themselves. You will also find that all neurodegenerative diseases share certain symptoms. They all affect different areas of the brain, but there is also a lot of overlapping damage.

What is your experience?
