I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago (I am 50), and had a 5 day adventure with solumedrol.  I am waiting for the training nurse to call and schedule a time for the training to start the betaseron.  Boy do I have a lot to learn.  Some questions I am pondering-
a) people on other forums have said that they get knots, and pain and have a hard time "absorbing" the drug which causes redness and swelling.  should I work out on my elliptical before administering, so I increase blood flow to get the med moving?
b) I am sooooo nervous about all the side affects that they made me read about.  Any suggestions to decreasing the prevalence of them, other than what they say in the paperwork?
c) I am really scared about the depression and suicide.  I have never had any depression symptoms.  My regular doc (not my neuro) said I should consider going on an antidepressant prophylactically.  That just sounds wrong.  Being on a med I just might need.....
Any suggestions to calm my frets?

I have no experience with betaseron. I chose copaxone because I too was afraid of the flu like side effects. I am sure you have already heard this, but the recommendation is to take tylenol or ibuprofen about an hour before you inject. Inject then go on to bed for the evening. Then keep a glass of water and more either tylenol or ibuprofen on the bedside table. If you wake in the night with chills, aches etc. take the extra dose. Watch the clock and be sure you aren't taking the tylenol too soon.

Best of luck. I hope it all works out for you. Please let us know.
