Hi. I am working with my doctor to figure out what is wrong with me. we have ruled out a host of conditions and he is at the point where he is shrugging his shoulders. I am wondering if it is MS. I do have a distant cousin and a maternal aunt with MS. I also have other conditions/surgeries that may be clouding things for me and my doctor. I had pancreatic divisum and had a total pancreatectomy with auto-immune islet transplant in 2006. This means I have no pancreas, and use a little insulin to supplement the insulin my islets make in my liver. After that surgery I was pain free for a couple years. Then my abdominal pain came back and was putting me in the ERs again. They found my transverse colon was not functioning and I had a sub-total colectomy in 2009. Since then I continue to have digestion issues, but that is not why I am writing. These are the symptoms I have noticed: I have muscle weakness mostly in my thighs and arms. If I try to exercise or have even moderate activity (shopping, gardening) my muscles get extremely achy and weak. this has only improved if I don't have any activity. for instance, typing tonight is causing my fingers to ache and hurt. Over the last couple years I have had instances where my fingers on the left (index and middle) get numb and tingly. I just have to wait for it to go away. Recently it also happened on my right hand. I also recently had my thighs get shaky/twitchy after 2 days of increased activity. I also have these weird episodes where I get this fuzzy feeling behind my nose, between my eyes accompanied by dizziness. That has happened off and on for a long time. I also have periods of time where I tend to drop things; at first I just chalked it up to carelessness, but then I realized that it was pretty out of the ordinary. I have trouble concentrating, thinking and feel muddled most of the time. I have a weird feeling on my lower legs where I think I have something crawling on me; sometimes it bothers me when I am trying to go to sleep. I am fatigued/weak often to the point of not having the strength to get out of bed. In spite of that I have trouble settling down to sleep, but am able to then sleep for 8-10 hours. I currently use about 3 units of insulin each day, take enzyme tablets to digest my food, take CoQ10, provigil (to help with energy), protonix, vitamin D, and a multivitamin. I take up to 1 1/2 tablets of 10-325 vicodin each day for pain associated with my digestion, but find i also need it for my muscle pain. I am also wondering if the abdominal pain I am experiencing is something other than digestion; do lesions on your spine cause pain? So, that is what I know and I look forward to hearing what you have to suggest. Thanks.
