Hello everybody this is my 1st post on bells palsy .. and my experience .... It was 2010 and I just got back from a weekend break .my sister was babysitting my house and my cats Anyway when I got in she asked me if I Was ok I said yeah why ? she said go look in the mirror your mouth is drooping I laughed and told her to shut up then when I did look I noticed what she meant it did look a bit funny as if it was drooping abit it wasnt like that before and I felt fine .... I know it sounds silly but I didnt think much of it it wasn't that bad and just thought it was alot to with drinking alot the night before and that it would go back to normal anyway ....

she had to leave to go to the shops I soaked in the bath she got back about an hour later I jumped out the bath and had a look in the mirror to check my mouth still not thinking much of it to my horror my left eye was wide open and my mouth was drooping alot now a looked like a was on drugs or even worse had a stroke ..... I went straight round to my grandparents who lived across the road when my grandad seen me he started to cry and told me to go to the doctors which i did straight away.
The gp told me to go straight to hospital as he thought I had a stroke as my mouth was now drooping on both sides ..... I was so scared as I was only 27 at the time and I'm not vain at all but by god did this scare the crap outta me .

When I got to the hosp there were lots of different doctors around me trying to figure out what had happened this one doc said he thought it was bells palsy and not a stroke I wasnt sure what this was either but was hopeful to hear that it might not be a stroke anyway he told the nurse to go to the vending machine to get a packet of fruit pastels he rubbed he fruit pastel on my tounge and asked could i taste it anywhere i could in the middle .... he then told me he was sure it was bells and the reason it looks like it affected both sides which is why they thought it was a stroke was just because it was pulling that much I actually only had it on one side i went for various tests for the ears ect aswell and discovered it defo was bells palsy

I researched in to it and to be honest looking up on the net ect scared me more than anything with lots or horror storys ect this drove me mad i never left the house never went to work I just felt so down and thought it was never going to go away . I did look at the net still couldnt help myself and this one person had said to practice moving your face mussels again and to picture in your mind that your face is normal again and the same time sightly straighten it back in place just gently anyway i done this and practiced other facial movements i Dont know if this helped or not but 4 Weeks of doing this and a few spliffs I could notice my face getting back to normal.
My mum came to visit me and she wow your looking good i would say it took about 6 weeks in total and my face had gone back to normal the only thing i will say is that sometimes i do notice in photos that my left eye is just slighty larger than the right but not that noticeable its just cause i was looking for it .... anyway I just want to post his to let people know that it will get better its a horrible thing to go through the doctors beleive that it was stress that caused this and I do agree I was under major stress at the time now when I get too stressed I try to calm myself down which can be hard but I do try my best as I never want this to return . I am now facing another medical problem but its nothing to do with bells .... if anyone wants to ask anything that they think I could help with I would be glad to !!!! take care and best wishes people !!! xxxx

hello hope your well yes thank god I'm back to normal I am always scared that It will come back but I am abit of a worrier anyway lol... Yeah I got the numbness few hours after I noticed my face was abnormal no tingling though the only test I got was the hearing test had to put on headphones and listen to different sounds but the tests came bk and there was no hearing problems ... Even though sometimes I felt my hearing was affected at the time of the bells palsy sometimes when ppl spoke sounded abit like they were under water ... I also forgot to mention that there is medication that can be took at the early stages 72 hrs of the symtons appearing .... I never got these offered to me which I though was strange and the nurse pointed this out later ...the med is called .... Prednisolone

Prednisolone works by helping to reduce inflammation (swelling), which should also help to speed up your recovery. In most cases, people with Bell's palsy are advised to take prednisolone tablets twice a day for a period of 10 days.

hope this helps !! ...... and thank you hope I've just had a 6th opp so hope this time I'm on the mend and hope u are too !!! take care

Hope you're all doing well. I'm also scared that it will come back especially when I feel pain around my neck. I tracked my progress on bellspalsy.me/ , hope will fully recover.
