Hi guys im new to this forum and i had allready posted in the IBS Thread as i was confused about the symptoms i have. Im male , 27 years old... On new years night i sufferd a head injury where i was punched in the face and fell backwards and cracked my head open on the concrete. Since i have had alot of confusion and dizziness, Upon waking when i try to stand its very difficult. I am not physically fit but i am young and am not overweight.

Recently within the last 2 weeks i have noticed what i thaught was stomach growling but as i have researched this more and experimented with my body it is looking more like lhermittes sign , Im not saying i have MS or that its a symptom or the start of MS but its somthing going on with my body and im really scared... If i bend my neck fowards i get an electrical tingling sensation in my neck that radiates to my belly in the form of a rumbling vibration and then tingling electrical feelings in my thighs.

I also have loss of sensation in my fingers which started as numbness on my fingertips.. Ive lost alot of sensation in them.

I didint really know where to post im just reaching out for help ..... As someone who has always been healthy his entire life with only asthma once every few years im just at a loss as to whats happening to me....

Im sorry if this is in the wrong thread... Any comments or thaughts would be greatly appreciated ... Thank you.

Hi Dabezz,

You have posted in the right place. You have symptoms and questions about MS. You are quite accurately describing L'hermittes sign. L'hermittes sign is a common issue with MS. The problem lies in that on ocassion it can also be associated with head and or neck trauma. So that MAY be your cause.

If you get a chance, google MS clonus. That sounds like your tummy sensation. I get this in my leg. I describe is at someone plucking an internal guitar string except there is no sound.

You need to see a doctor. My recommendation is that you see an MS specialist. This is a specific neurologist. Keep us posted!!

So i have to wait a month to see a doctor :(. Im just curious about the spreading numbness in my fingers which is constant ... Its now spreading to my arms im find it difficult to write now and pick things up ... Is this typical of a head injury / Lhermittes ?

Your symptoms are very concerning. I hope the head injury doesn't confuse the diagnositic process. Good luck!

My Rheumatologist told me that I am experiencing L'Hermettes sign. He sent me for a series of MRI's - brain, c-spine and lumbar (no contrast used). It came back as normal in the sense that there was nothing pinching on any nerves or the spinal cord. He has no idea as to what could be causing the problem and is sending me to see a Neurologist. Does anyone have any ideas?
Crohn's April 2009, Ankylosing Spondylitis 2007, Hiatus Hernia.
Current Meds - Prednisone, Nexium, Metformin, back on MTX to wean off Pred.
Past meds - 6mp killed my bone marrow. Predisone gives me diabetes. Humira, Remicade & Simponi caused drug-induced lupus and allergic reactions. MTX caused drug induced hepatitis. Major flare 3/1/2014 - Surgery now on the cards.

Hi Aussie,

On rare occasions, Humira can also trigger MS. Ask for a copy of your MRI report and a digital copy of the MRI as well. You may find that it does indicate a reason for the L'hermittes.

If you are enrolled in national health care, getting a diagnosis and treatment will be a long and arduous journey. Treating MS is extremely expensive and so in some cases patients are told "everything looks fine" until there is a second, third or fourth episode.

Be your own advocate. Insist on answers and appropriate treatment. L'hermittes doesn't develop for no reason. It indicates dysfunction in your central nervous system.

Thanks for your reply Gretchen.

I have a copy of the MRI report right next to me, but it gives no indication of what is causing the problem. I also have a problem with tingling, and numbness from approximately the waist area and down.

I am in Australia, and our health care system is vastly different to the US. All of my medical fees are paid for under our Medicare system, so my Rheumatologist has no issue with referring me to other Specialists or for more tests. All of the medication I'm on is also subsidised by the Government.

My Rheumatologist mentioned today when I saw him for the MRI results that Humira and Infliximab can trigger MS or a condition that is similar. He did say it's very rare, but he also said he won't discount it as the reactions I had to Humira, Inflixmab and Simponi were extremely rare too.

My appointment with the Neurologist is on the 18th of June so I will be interested to see what he says.
