Diagnosed with MS in 1997 I have declined steadily with severe right foot drop and right arm and hand weakness so bad that my fingers were curling. A month ago I began taking ampyra and after a few days I began noticing life in my right side with foot movement. Also I have added strength and stamina that I have been able to exercise for the first times in a few years without being exhausted in a few minutes. Still have some vertigo when walking but I am confident that will get better too. I have held out in taking the interferon ABC drugs all these years waiting on better treatments. Ampyra is not a disease modifying drug but with the results I have had so far perhaps I can rehabilitate myself enough until hey have a treatment that re-mylinates the the damaged nerves associated with MS.

That's great news Barry, before starting this medication a few weeks ago I could not even walk 50 yards. My second day of monitoring my steps with a pedometer I have gone over 3,500 steps today which is quite remarkable because I was close to being wheelchair bound. I have fought and kept the faith and am still believing for a complete healing. Glad to hear this has been helping you now for 4 years as that is what I wanted to know if this medication was a flash in the pan or would work long term.

my MS journey is similar to yours. dxed 20 years ago, and by 2009 i was ready for a wheel chair. i was able to start working out. i started eating sensibly, and now im in the best shape of my life, at 63. the disease is starting to worry me again. i have a appt for a baclafen pump trial next month. will post more after trial run.

i am sure it is still working. if i forget too take my pill every 12 hours, i turn into a pumpkin. you will find out how bad you will be with out it.

There seems to be a lot of similarities in our conditions and yes I believe diet is important too but I am yet not disciplined enough in this area. And also you are right about making sure you take this medication every 12 hours because last week I took only one for 2 days in a row and paid the price. This journey we are on is a challenging one but we have to keep our fight and not give up.
