Just a little history of what led me here. I have had severe migraines since I was 12 years old. I am now 32 years old. I still get migraines all the time with auras. Sometimes they get so bad I can't see or move. I have always been very healthy. Then in 2010 I had my second child and had gestational diabetes that turned into type 2 diabetes. In 2012 I had done some vigorous exercising and was numb along my left side leg and arm. I had difficulties walking and falling and could not tell the difference between hot and cold. Went to the hospital where they actually thought I had a stroke. They did a CT brain scan that came back clear so they said it was actually due to the exercise I had done and that I was ok. Then in 2013 I became pregnant with my 3rd baby. When I gave birth I developed post partum pre eclampsia where my blood pressure landed me to stay in the hospital for a few weeks reaching 180/120. I was taking blood pressure meds for a few months. When I was discharged from the hospital I started to have pains in my right quadrant my doctor sent me for tests and it came back that my liver enzymes were high. She sent me for an ultrasound which showed that I had a fatty Liver. Now in May 2014, I went for a very long walk to try and lose some weight I wasn't wearing proper shoes that did not fit right. Went to the doctor and they said it sounded like it was a nerve issue and sent me to a chiropractor. Days and months had gone and the numbness is still there. it's been 3 months so far and it has gotten better but the numbness is still there. Went back to my doctor and she said it is time for an MRI to check and see if it's MS. She said she didn't think it is since I have no other symptoms but just to be sure. I got my MRI results. The spine came back normal but my brain scan came back saying:
Fairly extensive multifocal areas of white matter lesions were identified. These were periventricular and subcortical in distribution.

Findings suspicious for demyelinating process.

my doctor just said it could be anything like my migraines or something else or is this from the issues I had after giving birth? My mom is going through the same thing but can no longer walk.
so I am scare and confused. please help.

You need to see a neurologist who specializes in MS. All the health issues you have experienced and shared here could indeed be causes by other factors, but the white matter lesions need to be carefully considered.

Many illnesses can cause lesions. Migraines cause lesions. You have a very long history of migraines so some doctors may not want to investigate further.

An MS specialist can do a very thorough exam of your nerve reflexes and responses. If you don't know of any MS specialists, then contact your local chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. They can put you in contact with local doctors who specifically diagnose and treat MS.

Pregnancy is considered neuro-protective. The hormones produced by the body often help prevent the progression of MS. After deliver, the hormone levels drop back down to normal. Many people who have MS experience a flare after childbirth. If you have MS, and obviously I cannot diagnose you, this could be why you have experienced issues following the birth of your children.

I am sorry to hear that your mother is no long able to walk. She has no diagnosis for this?! That is upsetting. I hope both of you can find answers and treatment for your health problems. Please keep us posted.

I have no lesions on my soul and so I live with no limits.

Hi. Thank you so much for the helpful information. My doctor just sent a referral for me to see a neurologist. I hope all goes well with that. As for my mom. She was in the hospital for a month cause they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. They found lesions in her brain as well they treated her with steroids and said it definitely looks like MS. The treatment they gave her has helped her a lot. She went from waking up and not being able to move her left leg to being able to walk a bit but requires a walker and wheelchair most times. The rehab does great for her as well. I'm just scared cause I've seen my mom struggle and I have young children that need me. I will follow up when I find out what is going on.

Thank you.
