I was diagnosed and treated for MS in 2005. My neuro left in 2012 and the few other neuro's I saw said it wasn't MS because it was only on my brain. They didn't know what it was, though. I have had a few more lesions come over the years but still not enough for a DX. I have had many symptoms over the years but that hasn't really seemed to matter.

Has anyone else been in a similar position? Does MS ever take that many yrs to progress enough to go from unknown to MS. I have had many symptoms over the years but that hasn't really seemed to matter.

Hi Lendi, I sort of remember you posting about this previously. Everything a person reads about diagnosing MS, all says there is not one single test used to diagnose. A lot of it is process of elimination of other illnesses. When you were actively being treated, did any of the medication help you at all?

A good website is the MSSociety.org, a lot of excellent information there. They also have a "locate a dr" & perhaps you can find a dr close to you & get a consult. It would perhaps be worth considering.

Take care.

Lendi,

Many people have a diagnosis of MS with “just” brain lesions. MS doesn’t aways attack the spinal column. Can you get a second or third opinion ?

I was dx in 2001 with a MRI of my brain only. I had symptoms for years before the diagnosis. Now.. 18 years later my neuro is saying "hmmm.. maybe this was never MS in the first place". The MRI's have gotten better over the years and are picking up different lesions that may or may not be MS. But, if they are not, then what are they?? No real answers for me. I have had many continuous symptoms that are typical of MS, but could possibly be attributed to something else. I am still being treated as if I have MS, but have finally reached a remission. It's a very tricky, complicated condition.

Have you ever been tested for Lyme disease?

If you test for Lyme , Igenix is one of the better labs for testing for Lyme and the co-infections.
You can go to their website for information but a MD or practitioner needs to sign the blood work order.

Wishing you the best of healing.
