Hey everyone,

I don't have an MS diagnosis as of yet. I have UC, unrelated to my post here today. I'd love to hear thoughts about possible options/diagnoses and tests I should consider to guide my neurologist, who has been baffled by my symptoms and does not have any answers for me. I tried two neurologists already and am still undergoing testing.

2.5 Months ago, I developed facial numbness that then turned into widespread full body numbness on both sides. It's 24/7 with no change at all, aside from spreading more overtime. No other symptoms. The neurologist had no idea what this could be and is still running a few tests. Here are the tests i've done so far.

MRI brain (normal)
CBC, ANA, ESR, Complete metabolic panel, Lyme blood test, B12, (all normal)
MRI, spine (scheduled)
Sweat test for small fiber neuropathy (have to wait till jan due to long waits)

Any ideas of what I should ask for/what other issues in addition to MS to consider?

Also, can MS present with widespread, bilateral numbness that is 24/7 for months?

Hi Jane, this is an extremely slow forum, however, I wanted to respond to your post. I suggest that you check out the NationalMultipleSclerosisSociety.org. There is a wealth of information on that site from possible symptoms to finding drs that treat across the country. Sadly, there is not one test to diagnose MS, instead they rule out all other potential issues before making a diagnosis. When I went to their site it does ask people to donate, however, ignore it & don't let it put you off.

Take care.

Hi Jane.

It's not necessarily common for MS to present bilaterally, but sometimes it does. Bilateral symptoms, in MS, are usually due to spinal cord lesions. I am glad to hear your Neurologist ordered a spine MRI. Straydog gave you a good resource (The National Multiple Sclerosis Society). Thank you Straydog. Best wishes Jane and take care.

Did you get lyme tested with a lab that specializes in tickborne disease testing?

If not, I suggest you go

Call Igenex lab and have a test kit sent - do a lyme Western Blot IgM and IgG
Costs $250

When you get results you can post them on the lyme forum.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. As an update, MRI of brain and Cervical spine is normal so neurologist doesn't think I have MS at all and does not want to pursue additional MS testing. I will fu and get the lyme tests.
