Hello all,
I saw my neuro for the second time today (was diagnosed quickly in April after only 3 weeks of symptoms), and asked about my prognosis again.. and of course she can't say because it's so unpredictable with everyone and so new to me.  However, she did say she is concerned that I had multiple symptoms with my first flare, and I haven't had complete recovery from them.  Therefore early treatment was important (on Betaseron).
I am wondering if anyone else's MS started this way, with multiple symptoms, and how the disease has progressed for you.  I know it is different for everyone, but I am interested to hear if you are willing to share.  She has assured me repeatedly that it's the relapsing remitting form.
Thanks, yeah

Dear Shar:  Boy, you are correct...that is a very, very short time from outset of symtoms to diagnosis.
At least you got a quick were not in limboland.
The common knowledge is how the quicker you can go on one of the therapies, the better.
Good luck to you.  We are all here for you.

What do you mean by multiple symptoms? I had nystagmus and right sided numbness and tingling on diagnosis as well as fatigue. My neuro said that she wouldn't wouldn't even tell me if I had RRMS for 2 years because she wanted to see how my disease process would progress.

Good luck to you!

Hi Sandy,
By multiple symptoms, she meant multiple lesions causing many problems at diagnosis:
6 brain lesions, 2 on spine
left side numb
right leg weak
bout of severe constipation
very off balance
When my numbness went away 100% several weeks later and my balance was 60% better she diagnosed me with RRMS quickly which allowed me to get approved for treatment.
Best Wishes,

What do you mean by "prognosis"?  As you are learning, there is no way to know, early on, whether your MS will progress quickly or slowly.  Some folks have a lot of attacks early on, then the disease seems to level off and they'll not experience much for months, even years.  Other folks will rock along for a long time with little disability, then be hit with a serious exacerbation.  Some folks will recover completely from flares, particularly early in the disease course; others will always experience some residual disability.

There simply is no way to know. There are folks who post here who have had MS for a long time, 25 or more years, and who are still doing ok; others of us who have had MS for a long time and who deal with serious disability, but are still alive and doing OK (but then, if I wake up in the morning, I think I'm doing OK!! tongue   )

...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....

Welcome back Uppity!  You were missed and I hope you had a good time.
I guess I was looking for other peoples experience with similar symptoms, but you're right.  Even that will tell me nothing about how the disease will progress with me.  I will just have to accept that and hope for the best. yeah
Thanks very much
