I had my first nuerologist appt today..it went as expected. I cant say I like or dislike the doctor...he was very a matter of fact, and thats ok. I was under the impression I had TWO white spots ion my brain...he showed the pictures and pointed out seven white spots! That was a bit disturbing. He did a thorough exam...the typical 'touch your finger to you nose','stand on your tip toes'..checking my eye movement, the feeling in my hands and feet and of course asking about a zillion question about my medical history. He said I had "this" for at least five years...however he did not say what "this" was...but he is leaning on the MS side...but until I have the spinal tap he is staying "on the fence"..because he said Lupus could still be a possibilty. He said that I have many of the sensory syptoms of MS,but until that spinal tap he wont DX. So...I go to the hospital for this test on Thursday morning. I should know more some time after that, when they get those reults...just wanted to update...

Hi Nichole,
It's sad when neuro's have to do a spinal before they will diagnose but most of them do!  My spinal was clear but my neuro said it didn't matter to him- either way he felt it was MS.   I hope you do well with the spinal and rest and take good care.  Let us know what you find out!
I have lupus and as far as I could tell, lupus cns and MS are not very identical.

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for the update! Spinals are not always necessary but some doctors do prefer to do the spinal for additional info if MS is suspected. Sounds like your doctor wants to be sure which is a good thing. I hope your spinal tap goes well with little problems, please let us know what you find out.

I'm sorry you found out more disturbing news (the 7 spots). And I'm sorry you have to undergo a spinal tap, but it sounds like the doctor is being thorough, and wants to be sure to rule out all other possibilities.
It could be of course that you have more than one thing going on...but I hope the doctor can settle on just one diagnosis and course of treatment.  As tough as it is to be diagnosed with some autoimmune disease, it's a lot easier if it's just one, and not more than one thing!
Good luck with your spinal. If you're going to the hospital, I'm sure they'll take good care of you, both before, and with advice about what to do when you go home.
Let us know how it goes!
