Can you have eye problems or ON that lasts for about 10 minutes , go away and come back a day or so later. Sometimes more than once a day.  My left eye for weeks now gets blured and then it is like when heat is on tar pavement. It get wavy almost like water and in the corner of the eye i see like ^ but sideways.  I know but I can't explain it well. Uppitycats have you ever heard of this.  Thanks Linda

Well, not all eye problems ARE "ON".  Optic neuritis is a specific description of the inflammation of the optic nerve.  Sometimes it can be painful, but not always.  I had ON without pain...but lost color vision in that eye, for example.

But other vision problems can occur with MS, too..like blurred vision that indeed can come and go (although when it happens to me, it more often is measured in hours, or overnight, that I'll get blurry vision.

Usually if I get anything going on with my eyes, I'm a real wimp. I'll be on the phone to the opthamologist, just to be sure that it is MS related, and not something else (except now I know about the blurry vision thing, and will wait for 24 hours or so to see if it goes away..and it does...only to come back again.)
...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....

Hi Linda,
I'm not trying to answer for Uppity, I'm sure she'll have some good advice but I wanted to tell you what I've been told.  My neuro is an MS specialist and an neuro opthamologist.  I have had some weird eye problems, similiar to what you're describing and other ones.  He told me that MS can cause some unusual eye problems and he had a name for it but I can't remember what it was.  Also, my regular eye doc told me the same thing.

From what I understand, ON lasts for several days to weeks and it causes pain and blurring.  I have had boughts of severe pain when moving my eye but minor blurring, my neuro thought it was optic neuritis but my eye looks fine and the VEP's are normal.  I'm gonna ask him again tomorrow about eye stuff, if he tells me anything else, I'll let you know.

Take care! :-)

Hey Linda

Just a quick note here to let u know of my experience with similar type probs. I have blurry vision that lasts only a short time as well. I also see things in the side of my vision and had convinced myself that i had ON when i went to see my eye doc. I have SEVERE eye pain and it usually lasts several days. Just came 'out' of a three day bout with it last night and today my eye is REALLY sore. The eye doc told me i was having optic migraines and had a TINY tear in my retina. That's how she explained the 'floaters' i was seeing and the pain. I usually see little silver specks that are shaped just like u indicated and they are ALWAYS in my side vision. I don't always have pain when i see those tho...just see them and they're gone. Most times i have the blurry vision and no pain at all with them either. And, yes, even the wavy look to things...almost like an out of body experience, but with u'r eyes if that makes any sense! Just FYI in case this could be something to ask about. I hope u can get an answer to u'r question soon and some relief! Let us know how u'r doing.
