Hey Everyone

I wanted to come and update on my eye situation. As some of u may remember, i have had some pretty bad pain in my right eye for some time now. I went to the eye doc who first said surg and referred me to anther eye doc/surgeon. THAT doc said surg if i wanted to experience horrible pain, but it wouldn't stop my original complaint of eye pain....ummm...DUH!! Didn't do that one. So he said either sinus probs or maybe i should see a neuro for it. (Geez...can't get anything by these docs!) So today i saw the ENT for the sinus question. He looked at every opening on my head and into my eyes. He wants me to drop my mri films off to him tomorrow to confirm his dx, but is all but certain i have no probs with my sinus'. He advised me to keep my appt with the neuro opthamalogist tomorrow, so i'll be seeing him tomorrow morning. As my story goes, i'm sure he won't find anything either and in most cases that'd be a great thing to expect. However, in this case i'd truely love to know what's going on. I'll be back tomorrow night to update. Well that all depends i guess. The trip to the doc is 2 hours away and i'm sure i'll be wiped out, but if i can i'll be here.

Rhonda,

At least you know it isn't an ENT problem. Sorry to hear you are still having eye pain. I hope it gets better!!

Please give us an update tomorrow if you feel up to it.

Take care and you'll be in my thoughts!

Lysha

I'm sorry you're having eye pain. A neuro-opthamologist sounds like a good next step. You've had to deal with t his for too long, now.

Hey Everyone

Thank u all for u'r replies. Well i know not much more than i did...well make that nothing more. He listened to my story of how i came to be visiting him today. He was MAD. He took down all the names of the docs i saw and in the order i saw them and what they said. He looked at my eyes...but not as thoroughly as i expected...and then said he didn't know. My optic nerve is healthy and my sinus' are healty and that only leaves one thing...migraines. He said since there are so many things going on with me, yet no answers per my test results, he wanted to go with the dx of the first doc (migraines) and treat me as such for 5 wks. He gave me Topamax and said we'd re-check in 5 wks and if it's helping he'd have me stay on it for a total of 6 months and then he wants me off it. The worst part about today is that he actually said i don't have ms...but didn't know what i do have. He knows what i dont have tho. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not interested in having any illness, but things have been so narrowed down and this is what i'm left with. I know without any doubt there is something going on. If not ms, then what?? I'd really just like to know what. To add to Lysha's statement...what do u do? What direction do u go in? So, i'm on this new med for 5 wks and then i'll see from there. This was the worst day symptoms wise that i've had durimng my visits with him. I've had weakness all day, my face is making it's own faces again and my memory/thought process has been shot all week. U just have to wonder how they can see some things...and hear about others..and not be able to tell u anything. People don't just go around making this kind of thing up. It's not a desireable situation and there just must be some way it can be dx'd and treated and done with. Thanks for reading this guys...just had to throw in some whining at the end.

Rhonda,

This has got to be so frustrating.  I'm glad to hear you found someone who is going to have you try something at least... at least rule out migraines if it's not that, and fix it hopefully if it is.  Feel free to vent anytime!

Please let us know how it's going.

Shar :-)

Hey Shar

Yes, this is quite frustrating, but no more so for me than for others here. Yesterday was just a pit stop....not the end of the world...or of this journey. I'm on the topamax as of today and we'll see how it goes. If it fixes the eye prob GREAT!!! If not, as u said, at least we tried and we can eliminate another thing. All is well as much as can be and i thank u for u'r support. It's so dearly appreciated.

Hi Rhonda,

At least this doc is trying to make you feel better.  I don't remember if the first doc you went to that said migraines prescribed anything for you?   My daughter has been on Topamax for the past two years for chronic migraines and it really has made a world of difference for her.  She suffered not just from the headaches but pain throughout her body, blurred vision, dizziness, and the drunken walk!   Like you said if it doesn't help at least something else has been eliminated.  Take care of yourself and keep us updated :-)

Hey Kimber

Thanks! Yes, he does seem to be trying to help and for that i am thankful! He's been a great doc from the get go! My eye doc who i first saw for this said my neuro had to give me something for the eye pain since she was dx'ing migraines. I didn't really understand that, but accepted it. I saw my neuro and asked him about it and he said the cymbalta i was using should take care of it. Well it wasn't to that point, but i decided to wait and see and then revisit the subject if needed. Well...needed! I also didn't really accept the migraine thing too much, so that's why i went on to the eye doc. Anyway, I really do hope this is the answer. I could use a break on this. U said u'r daughter has been on Topamax for 2 yrs?? Wow...my doc felt it was so harsh that i didn't need to be on it for more than 6 months with all that's also going on. He said it made u lose weight and could cause a number of other issues. Has u'r daughter noticed any probs related to the med?

Hey Gracie's Mom

I hadn't thought about migraines causing sleep issues. I really prob sleep too much. I don't know, maybe i don't get the proper level of restful sleep, but since i sleep so much i just figured it was due to all that's been going on otherwise and would resolve when/if the other stuff is also resolved. I'm gonna keep this in mind and talk with my doc about it at my next visit. Thanks for the info! Nice to see u'r post.

Hi Rhonda,

No she doesn't have any side effects with it at all.  Her neuro said that as long as it continues to be effective and she has no side effects she can stay on it as long as necessary.  He recommended she drink plenty of water with it both to avoid issues with the kidneys and also dehydration which he feels some people with migraines have a problem with.  Also absolutely no caffeine and yes it can cause problems with weight loss but that's not something she has had a problem with.

I wish you well, let us know how it works for you!
