hello,

I have been having problems for about 4-5 years now.  No one has come up with a diagnosis.  I have had pain and stiffness in my legs.  Feels very 'heavy' to walk. I get a tingling sensation in my feet (pins and needles) off and on.  My legs will twitch sometimes.  If I am in a sitting position and put my feet up on my toes, sometimes my legs will shake uncontrollably.  Lately, I have been dropping things that I know I have a good grasp on.  My left arm started aching within the last week or so and now my hand has the same tingling feeling as my feet get. I get low back pains.  Sometimes my legs are so stiff that is  a big chore just to walk to the kitchen.  I had a physical about 4 days ago and he checked my reflexes and they were extremely strong.  Never have had that happen before.  When I use a fork or spoon my hand will sometimes shake for no reason.  I don't know where to turn right now.  I am very fatigues. Am I just being a hypochondriac or does this maybe sound like MS?

When you say "no one has come up with a diagnosis"...who have you seen? Have you been to a neurologist had had MRI's done, and a spinal tap (or lumbar puncture) and evoked potentials? Have you seen a rheumatologist and had blood work done to look for things like lupus, or rheumatoid arthritis, or other such diseases? Have you been tested for diabetes, or thyroid problems, or restless leg syndrome? When you had your physical, did you discuss these problems with your doctor?

I did bring these up to my doctor during my physical.  He took extra blood testing.  I have not had an MRI, spinal tap.   I was at the Mayo Clinic last year with all doctors thinking I had a problem with my hip.  I under went surgery but they did not find anything wrong with my hip.  I have not heard anything from my doctor regarding the blood tests.  I am guessing at this point, since it has been so long, that they did not find anything?  I take thyroid medicine for my hyothyroid.  Inhaler for my asthma and Zantac for my acid-reflux.

You should never assume that -- if you hear nothing, that all is OK. You should call your doctor in a week or so (since you said you just went to see him) and ASK about the test results. The nurse (or receptionist) who answers your call should not be the one to give you an answer, but should connect you with the doctor, or set up an appointment for you to come in and have him go over the results with you. Or if indeed there was nothing found, then your question must be: "Well, I'm still suffering with these symptoms. Where do I go from here?"

It doesn't sound like you've been tested for MS at all, but with a thyroid not working properly (the medicine you're on), it's quite possible that many of your symptoms could be related to that. You should remind your doctor that you're on thyroid medicine, and ask if there could be a problem with that.
