Hello everybody. 2 questions.. Does anyone know if you could have a lesion in the neck. And if so, would an MRI of the brain pick that up? Also, does anyone know what symptoms would happen if you did have a lesion there and/or the spine

Hey Neurogurl

I had a diagram someplace that someone emailed me. I'm gonna try to find it and get it to u. It listed the various symptoms and they're direct relation to lesion placement. (i've already tried to find this before and was unseccessful, so it may take me some time!)

I've had MRIs of the head, neck and spine. The neck is actually done seperate from the brain, but I am unaware of how the lesion placement effects different parts of your body...

I have several leisons, the one on my right side affects my left side. My left leg (thigh area has been numb for a yr now). The one in the back of my head affects some motor skills. Those are my biggest two and the ones that give me so many problems. Sorry I don't more.

Yes, you can have lesions in the neck. That's probably the worst place to have them, as the space there is pretty narrow, and is taken up with your brain stem, which controls some of the "master" areas of your life...like breathing, and heart rate, and all that.  People with lesions on their brain stem are usually pretty seriously impaired.

If you have lesions on the spine, everything BELOW the lesion is affected.  Like, I have at least one lesion somewhere in the upper middle of my back...so I'm numb from mid torso to toes, walking has always been impaired (and now, after 24 years, I can't walk at all), bowel and bladder affected, all that.  Lesions on the brain can affect these areas, too, but generally not quite as severely as spinal lesions.

Hey Neurogurl

I'm very sorry. I looked til 1am this morn thru my email and researched for that diagram on the web, but no luck. I just can't find it. If anyone has a diagram such as i'm speaking of, i'd love it if u'd post it here. I too would like to see it again. Uppity (as always!) did a great job explaining how lesions affect parts of the body. There is a break down of particuliar areas of the brain, tho, and that's the part i'd like for u to see. Again, i'm very sorry i couldn't find it.

Did you look at the new site that I posted a link to? There are good descriptions there of what an MRI looks like (with MS lesions), and a long list of other disorders that mimic MS. The vision problems related to MS are also described; they don't sound much like what you describe is your problem.  You might read that and see if there are any similarities there.
