Does anyone know exactly what this is supposed to feel like. I read that when you bend your neck down to your chest you get an electrical shock like sensation down the spine. Is this true? Does it have to run down the spine. Or could it be zapping sensation throughout the whole body. For example, a zap on the leg, then zap on the shoulder blade, then zap on the arm.

"True" L'Hermittes indeed originates with the nerves in the neck, and radiates down from there. Sometimes down through a shoulder, other times down the spine to the butt, and even in to the leg. It is initiated by bending your neck.

Here is a web page that describes it: http://www.mult-sclerosis.org/LHermittessign.html

Other zaps and zings in limbs (and elsewhere) might be an indication of peripheral nerve problems, or sometimes just "happen" (folks without neurological problems can and do get zaps and zings from time to time, when a nerve is touched. )

My husband gets it every time he bends his head forward.  He describes it as being electrocuted..one quick zap down the neck into the shoulders and down to the base of the spine.  Lasts just a few seconds, but not very pleasant.  Hope this helps.
