Well tomorrow is the follow-up with the neuro, I think she will probably want to do the LP.  I'm scared, and don't know what to do.  If the LP is positive, and MRI isn't, then they can't diagnose me, right?  So, I'd be hanging in limboland.  What do you think?  I'm soooo confused at this point.  Don't you have to have positive MRI findings to be diagnosed?  Or can they diagnose you with just positive LP alone?  My neuro exam that she gave me was perfect she said, so, what do I do?

Hey Jenny!

I'll keep u in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow as u see the doc. Don't worry about the LP, it's not really as bad as u'r prob expecting it to be. Have u ever had an epidural?? Well it's much like that. U've prob read some stories here and elsewhere that indicated probs with the LP such as a headache afterwards. Well that is indeed a possibility, but not a certainty. The thing to remember about that is that u can ask for something called a blood patch. That clears up any headache u may get after, but there's a good chance u won't even get the headache.

The LP on it's own isn't enuf to dx u, but combined with certain other positive test results can help in dx'ing. As for the positive MRI, well that depends too. U can have lesions in places of u'r brain that aren't indicitive of ms...for reasons like stroke, migraine headaches and numerous other things.

What do u do if u have normal test results...normal exam...normal mri?? Well u join me on my yacht!! ;) Limbo land isn't so much fun, but it's the only thing u can do. U wait and watch and continue to note things that aren't normal for u. Keep up with u'r symptoms journal, keep asking questions here and at u'r neuro's office and keep moving on with u'r life as normally as u can. U let the docs know of any bothersome symptoms that u just can't function around and they'll help u with either meds or physical therapy and u get by and get on. I know that's not an appealing place to find u'rself, but it is much better than some other places u could be in. Hang in there Jenny, in time whatever's going on will show it'self and u'll be able to move forward on it then. I'm sure i've missed something important here and i hope if anyone sees what it is they'll add their input. Tonight is something of a mush of thoughts...so forgive me!
