Hi Kirsty -
I'm new to this stuff, but I know many people with MS take all kinds of great trips. I think uppity was just talking about all the trips she has taken and I'm pretty sure confusedgal just came back from the Egypt area (I may be wrong, I'm at work and can't search the posts right now). My hubby and I are going to Alaska for 7 days (Denali and Kenai Adventure) in July with alot of hiking so I'm kind of worried about this too, had the trip booked since early last year. But I know you just have to know your limits and take it easy. I'm sure there will be alot of others sharing their experiences with you, this will be a fun post to hear about everyones trips. Hang in there, hopefully answers will be coming soon.

I have indeed taken a lot of trips...but have done careful planning to be sure I wouldn't be in areas where it is hot and humid (like, I'd never consider Egypt, and when I did go to the Philippines I went in the middle of winter when temperatures there were at least "moderate" -- low 80's).

Hot and humid can be very difficult for someone with MS.  It can cause symptoms to worsen temporarily (improving once the body is cool again). And it can increase fatigue.

I use a wheelchair full time, so I'm always looking for those day trips that don't require walking, or I stay behind and let my husband go and come back with pictures.

You say you're sure you have MS...are the weak left arm, leg, and temporarily numb fingers your only symptoms?  If so -- you're a long way from diagnosis. There can be lots of reasons for those problems, and some of those things are fixable, treatable, and a lot less debilitating than MS can be.  Good luck with your MRI.  Let us know how it goes.

Kristy,

I know your hopes are up about the MRI showing something but be careful. I was hoping with every ounce of myself that the MRI would show something and it was clear. I actually cried because I thought, great now I am back to square one. I am lucky though because my neuro hasn't given up and keeps looking for things.

There are many of us here that have gone through all the tests and still have no answers and no dx. Many of the ones that are dx waited years for the dx to come.

I just don't want to get your hopes too high just to have them crushed. Just remember that You know something isn't right so even if the MRI comes back clear you can still fight to find out what is happening!

I wish you lots of luck!

Lysha

Hi Kristy,

We don't normally take vacations, but many people here do and have a good time!  I hope you get your answers soon, please let us know how you make out with your MRI.

Hey Kirsty

Well, not dx'd here, but can tell u that i've traveled some since my symptoms began and to my astonishment i haven't had any probs! I was like u...just KNEW things would be hard. The last trip i had was to a cold place, but before that i went to camp with my kids and it was HOT and HUMID. I had to walk up and down a huge hill every day all day...no probs. Of course i got tired and was ready to give up after the first day, but moreso from just being out of shape! U take that trip...follow Uppity's advice on being prepared and planning ahead...and have some fun! U know what u'r symptoms are...u know u'r limits...work within them and let the good times roll! Have fun and think of us all here wishing we were there too!
